Land of the Magiliths

While there are many magical places across Chenravo, perhaps none are so infused with the essence of the arcane as the Land of the Magiliths. With four towering gemstones jutting from the ground and grasses as blue as the skies, it is a wonder it stayed upon the Base Plane during the Kervtrat. Also known as Quanillaxy, this area frequently upends agreed upon postulates of magical theory.    It is inhabited nearly exclusively by the dragons of the magiliths. They are the same as the magical stones of the land: amethyst, emerald, ruby, and topaz. Some of the Dragonborn they create stay around the area after having completed the tasks they were made for. Due to magical theory and superstition, this beautiful land has gone largely uninhabited. This uninhabited nature has led to many monstrous and dangerous creatures moving here over time so as not to be hunted. Here they have flourished, leaving these grasslands dangerous to go alone; or even with others.

Geography

Quanilaxy has a variety of landscapes, but the region overall is fairly rugged. The emergence of the Magiliths caused earthquakes and mountians to rise from the magically charged ground. Because of this, many of the areas around the stones themselves are particulary mountainous. Much of the rest of the region is rolling hills of bright blue grasslands. There are several lakes, and a peninsula that is somewhat mirrored in Riflian to the direct north.   On the border with Riflian, much of the magical grass dies due to the cold frosts and winds. However, the ice on the border seems to be charged as the energy leaves the grass. Ice affectid in this way has a deep blue coloration, and is incredibly difficult to melt. Even the hottest flames produce little steam. Chunks of this ice are frequently used as foci for elven or cold-based casters.    On the border with the Great Jungle of Jerule, a reletively short stretch of land, things get arguably stranger. The leaves of the trees that grow here take on a hue close to that of the grass. The wood from these trees has been vital to the construction of warforged and autognomes. As a result, the number of these trees has declined sharply as they have been harvested for use in gnomish inventions. This border region has seen the highest level of deforestation out of anywhere in Gerule due to their reliance on this resource. While in recent years they have made moves to start planting trees in the area, it will be a long time before any of them are mature enough to harvest.    The final border of Quanilaxy is the one it shares with the Plendicar Riverlands. This border is much harder to locate given the similar topographies and flora. The grasses themselves change color over a period of several miles, so the border is very ill-defined.

Ecosystem

Over time, many dangerous creatures have migrated here, where they are less likely to be hunted and killed by people looking to protect their homes and towns. As a result, the collection of creatures here is ecclectic and has formed a rather unique food web.

Ecosystem Cycles

While the outer areas of the region, with the exception of the coastal regions, see more seasonal changes, the central regions are more insulated from changes. In areas where the winters are colder, many monstrous creatures enter hibernation.

Localized Phenomena

There are four major gemstones that have grown up from deep underground. Each acts as a home for the dragons of like material. Interestingly, with the exception of sapphire, all of the warpstone materials are represented by the magiliths: Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, and Topaz. Some speculate that the warpstones were cut from the magiliths, given their magical capabilities.

Climate

This area has a colder climate due to its northern position, but the mountains make it difficult for many storms to disrupt the region. Areas near the coasts tend to be more temperate, while the central area of Quanilaxy is largely protected from drastic changes in temperature. This results in a higher occurance of storms around the center and on the mountains as the warm and cool air clash.

Natural Resources

This area is rich in arcane energy. Many casters who visit here experience a variety of effects such as improved functionality or a faster replenishing of their internal energy stores. The effects seem largely tied to the individual. The reasons for these effects are not well studied, like many things about the region.    The area also has a high frequency of of the four magilith gemstones, in addition to sapphires. These stones are easiest to find near the magilith of the same material, but sapphires are most prominant around the central mountain of the region. Harkinmont sends expeditions out frequently to gather both these stones and other materials endemic to the region. Materials sourced here often have magical properties beyond similar materials found elsewhere.

History

It seems that not even the eldest of the dragons here are entirely sure of how they came to be. Many of their first memories are of a familiar and comforting prescence fading away, never to be felt again. Each one is tied to a philosophy. Ruby dragons are inherantly judicious, believing that a system of rules is paramount in any working society. Topaz dragons believe in the good of the group above the good of the individual. Amethyst dragons believe in the opposite, that the individual is paramount. Emerald dragons hold that an individual should be able to act as they wish without constraint.

Tourism

For the same reasons that few people live here, namely magical theory regarding massive amounts of arcane energy and superstition, few people care to vacation here. Add in that many types of dangerous fauna have been making their homes in the region, and the reputation of the area is far from recreational. Some groups of adventurers come here to gather magical materials or train against strong monsters, but these visits hardly constitute any serious form of tourism. While there are beautiful sights and unique resources, many of them are not worth the danger surrounding them.
