Cheznerix
Cheznerix is a trickster and an entertainer, and he enjoys the company of those of a like mind. While he isn't the best schemer of the gods, he does enjoy putting together projects that are truly entertaining or mischievous. Many of these are at the expense of others, occasionally even at the expense of other gods. These leave a bad taste in the mouths of their enemies. In the eyes of this god, reality is a joke, and it is his job to show people the humor.
Like the actors in a theater, Cheznerix wears many faces, carries many masks. The god of tricksters has many appearances, but most often he looks like an elf shrouded in dark cloths. A collection of expensive looking rings, bracelets, and necklaces adorn his form, but do not make sound when they should. When he wears his hood down, the god is fairer than the elves, an accomplishment in and of itself. His hair is one of his most distinctive features: it is mostly the pale blond of the high elves, but has streaks of brown and white hair that the wood elves and drow wear, respectively. Smaller streaks showing the other elvish subraces are also present.
The elves used to share the disposition of this god, but somewhere along the line, they became cold and distant from most of the other races, which some non-elf scholars speculate was the result of the harsh land that they lived in. Interestingly, this attitude has partially bled over to Cheznerix, giving him something of a split personality. Many have heard the stories of the jovial elves, and hope to see them emerge once more. These people primarily believe that it will be Cheznerix who brings about this change.
Cheznerix's Influence
As their progenitor god, Cheznerix is worshipped by most Elves. There seems to be, however a disconnect between Cheznerix's personality, and that of the general attitude of the elves. This is very uncommon, as gods and their people tend to reflect each other well. Some Facets of Cheznerix represent the Elves' new behaviors, but most still show him as a cheerful, if mischievous god. Beyond that, many entertainers and ne’er-do-wells also offer prayers to this mischievous deity. Cheznerix is a god who rewards the learning of many skills, and diversification of one's education. Bards and Rouges in particular are devout to Cheznerix. They are not all concerned with what Cheznerix stands for, but instead what he has to offer to them. Many, if not most do care for his values and ideals, but this god welcomes all into his church, even if they simply seek to abuse his power. He finds these people are easy to make examples of. Cheznerix plants the seeds of conflict, in many cases knowing that the story that arises from the event will be impressive. He is known to have been the cause in at least 3 wars, but it is unclear how many others he had a hand in. If he is not seeding chaos, he is observing it, and writing stories of his own based on what he sees happening around him. Cheznerix has put many of his works into the world under pseudonyms, and in these hides some secret or forbidden knowledge.Cheznerix's Goals
Cheznerix revels in creating conflict and entertainment. He doesn't always recognize the difference between the two. He understands looking to the future, and isn't impulsive. He understands the need for structure in his more elaborate plots. While he is always in search of a way to entertain himself, some of his plans are laid out years in advance, waiting for some specific event to tip things into motion.Divine Relationships
With his tendency to make jokes of the other gods, Cheznerix has burned a few bridges. While he does not hold any particular enmity for other gods, the same cannot be said of them for him. Cheznerix has two relationships that he truly values: with Norentha and with Quetminook. He chose to follow Norentha, and she has rewarded him greatly. His innate abilities have been boosted under her tutelage, and she has given him a few more tools to use in his search for stories. Quetminook will tell Cheznerix anything he wishes to know, with few, if any, questions asked. Cheznerix does not entirely understand the danger he faces from Jakular at the moment. The last prank played on the God of Beasts went a little too far, and for now, Jakular plots his own lesson for the God of Trickery.Worshipping Cheznerix
Cheznerix loves stories, especially those made for him. He loves any story, factual or fictional, court intrigues, or adventures. Some who wish to truly curry favor with the god will emulate him, play him in productions based on the gods, write stories with secret knowledge published under pseudonyms, or lay plots that will result in extravagant stories. Many entertainers will gather in the summer and organize a festival. The festival is a venue to present new works, and to reaffirm the classics. In the dark corners of these festivals, the other camp of Cheznerix's followers gather and tell of their exploits, making these events bustling affairs.Aspects of Cheznerix
The gods often represent more than one facet. The gods' facets are defined by their worshippers, so that the gods suit the needs of the people. No aspect is ever gone, however, and any facet that was created in the past still lurks somewhere in the god's personality, waiting for when it is needed again, or perhaps plotting a situation that might make it relevant once more. As a progenitor god, Cheznerix has been around for a long time, a fact that usually equates to a larger number of aspects, and Cheznerix holds to this. Because of his age, some of his aspects are faded, and not all of them are listed here.Aspect of the Entertainer
This is the aspect that focuses on the creation, performance, and enjoyment of entertainment. It actively seek to inspire, create, and enjoy entertainment itself. The Entertainer sets plans ahead, sometimes decades in advance to create stories. While this one is flamboyant and showy, it is also calculating and precise, doing each part correctly, from planning to execution. Minstrels, bards, and stage operators all owe allegiance to The Entertainer.Aspect of Laziness
This aspect encourages and rewards those who do little. This aspect has been lessened in recent years as the elves have become increasingly isolationist and warlike. This aspect likes to lie back and relax, and enjoys the company of others of the same mind. Any who dislike working hard can find godly commiseration with this aspect.Aspect of the Trickster
This aspect plays tricks and plots, working closely with The Entertainer. He wants to make the world happier, through gold, laughter, or pranks. Rogues are likely to follow this aspect, the thief and planner that it is. He wants to create mischief, and isn't necessarily picky about how he goes about it.Aspect of the Sky
This aspect favors the birds, the sun, and the open sky. Because of this, many air faring races worship this aspect, from Aarakocra, to some inventive Gnomes, to Kenku. This aspect is also in charge of storms and weather, leading to prayers of mercy when the weather declines.Aspect of Detachment
This is a newer aspect, born of the elves' building of the Wall of Walking Frost and separating themselves from the events of the world. This aspect simply does not care, and finds some form of companionship with the aspect of laziness. It wants the others to be as apathetic and as lacking in care as it.Aspect of Isolation
While this is a relatively new aspect, it still holds a large amount of power. The elves who stay behind the Wall of Walking Frost pray to this aspect frequently. The Isolationist seeks to protect by keeping separate. This aspect seeks to limit contact to only what is strictly necessary.Aspect of the Elves
This aspect is mostly concerned with the wellbeing of the race modelled after him. This one is his oldest and strongest aspect, and in everything he does, nothing is ever done to go against his people. Cheznerix holds the elves so close, that to go against them would be to go against himself. He will go to any lengths to protect his people.Aspect of the Cold
This aspect represents the lands in which the elves live. It is cold and harsh, speaking in the howling wind and teaching with the heavy snow. This aspect cares for and maintains the arctic regions, and the few druids that follow Cheznerix pray to this aspect.
