The Senu II pilgrims, along with their escort, Barry, fly to the far side of Chellok in the commandered orbital clipper, The Crosspoint. After scanning the surface and upper magnetosphere, the crew is able to locate and board the derelict Orbak He3 rig. Being the first outsiders to arrive since the rig melted itself into the ice, they are able to successfully negotiate with the abandoned Gurratan rig workers for a 50/50 split of the LH3 sales and transport to a non-Gurratan port. The pilgrims split up to accelerate their departure, but are unfortunately all separate when their worst fears are realized: the Gurratan captain out for their heads, Sebo Lommar, catches up with them.

The Senu II pilgrims, along with their escort, Barry, fly to the far side of Chellok in the commandered orbital clipper, The Crosspoint. Upon reaching the derelict Orbak He3 rig's last known coordinates, they begin to scan the surface and the magnetosphere for reflected radio signals. Fal loses control during a course correction in the zero-g of the far side, but is able to regain control and avoid catastrophe. Soon after, the crew is able to triangulate the likely position of the rig. Abundantly cautious, Fal cirlces the rig a few times as the crew decides on a plan of entry. Fearing the arrival of hostile pirates or a reprisal from Sebo Lommar, Fal drops Nama, Derax, and Barry off on the rig in their vacc suits and then flys The Crosspoint to a nearby valley and begins passive scans of the area for any incoming ships.

Once on the Orbak rig, Barry proves he's more than just another pilgrim by using his sugranese and computer skills to register himself as a newly onboarded rig worker to gain access to the pressurized interior. He also intereprets during negotiations with the emaciated desparate rig workers, who agree to help crew the G-07 MX Tanker, holding a delicate 255,000 cubic meters of LH3, in return for transport to any non-Gurratan port and a 50/50 split on the sale of the LH3.

After striking a deal with the abandoned workers, the pilgrims are allowed into the central control room, where the workers are staying. Barry calls out in Sugranese, "Blukat doh sammar!" as the pilgrims offer some of their kaldis nuts and water to the starving workers. A new hope and some rations breathes new life into the workers and they eagerly go with Nama to prepare the tanker for launch. Derax assists Barry, who insists on gaining access to the rig's main server located in the damaged lower level. Derax lowers Barry on a rope into a gaping hole. Barry explores the damaged reactor floor and accesses the main server... but what kind of strange sugran files did he need to SEE so badly?

While Barry is focused on "accessing the server," Nama calls Fal back to the rig in order to prepare to pilot the G-07 MX Tanker. The Crosspoint crew's fears are realized as Fal barely has enough time to pick up a signal before a kinetic missile from Lommar's attack ship pierces The Crosspoint and part of the rig. The Orbak rig shudders from the violent force of the missile, and Derax who was pulling Barry up out of the cold, dark depths of the reactor loses his grip causing Barry to slide back down. Or perhaps Barry's vacc suit was just slippery from some reactor lubricant he brushed up against. Regardless, The Crosspoint crew's four members are all separated at the worst possible time.
