Urr

According to tradition and myth, the Gods gave the Bahku protectors and leaders - the Urr who are different from other mortals and stand outside of normal society. The Chosen (Urr) serve as guardians, guides and protectors and are graced with supernatural speed, strength and other powers not possessed by common Bahku.  Urr have great honor, respect and obligation when they uphold their status. Scorn, hate and avoidance when they do not.
The Bahku are a tribal traditional society. Most individuals live conventional lives.  The Urr is different. They are exceptional - stronger, faster and inborn with ability to sense and use their essence, or magical/ spiritual power to fuel abilities outside of the norm.  Because they are chosen by the Gods to protect and lead the people they are expected to help and serve all rather than rule.  Thus the more they help the tribe prosper the more they are respected. Much as successful and skilled hunters or strong warriors. Their powers make them powerful, but not wiser than others so they are not necessarily chiefs. It is not possible to learn to become Urr - it is a born trait or bestowed by the Gods and only one in a hundred or less might show the abilities.

Duties

The Urr channel their essence into attacks that allow them to see and strike across the membrane between Astral Plane , The MIsts , The Umbral Realm  and the mortal world. The powered attacks carry ability to harm things immune to normal mundane weapons and attacks. They power their auras to deflect and lessen blows or projectiles.  The Urr is the defense against the stronger supernaturals and with the Cloudreader protection from malign spirits and entities.  The Urr is able to fight and banish Ghenid Ghosts, where normal Bahku might only disrupt a materialized form. This is huge advantage against Ghenid, frequent traditional opponents.  The Urr also gains faster healing, even to regeneration in the most powerful.  They have a powered leap that covers 10 meters or more.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Urr who show cowardice or use their powers to dominate or bully are hated and scorned.  They may be cursed and avoided. Particularly bad ones may cause tribe members to seek another Urr champion to defeat the bad one.

Cultural Significance

Many outsiders of different species think that the Urr title is perhaps one bestowed as an honor or related to skills learned like Magic.  They may mistakenly call a chief Urr.  But the Urr is to Bahku, a special heroic status of mythic origin. They are servants of the people and the Gods.  The Cloudreader and the Poet have powers and the blessings of the Gods, but the Urr is superior and a pure warrior, guardian and hunter expected to be an exemplar of Bahku values.  The others have unseemly eccentricities and weakness unsuited to the warrior culture.
