Genie Lamp Item in Charron | World Anvil

Genie Lamp

The most wondrous treasure is the enchanted item that is the Genie's lamp. The owner of the lamp may command the genie bound to the lamp to perform any service or carry out magical wishes. Great is the lamp's power. But it is a great labor and huge cost to produce, that challenges even the highest ranked mages. The formulae exist in several great tomes of the Shadow period - The Codex of the Golden Sun, the Lost book of Tslal contained a plan ( this book is believed to lie in the Black Jade Prison in the Assura spirit Realm), the Violet Atlas of Duzantul and the Anzipakta folio of the Demon King.

"Few realize the Lamp of the Genie is a device of cruelest slavery that consumes the victim and leaves them dependent upon the Lamp for their very existence while they serve the greed of their master."

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Lamp is a magical focus and spirit binding focus. The central enchantment is of a mastery of transformation over laid with a Force focus. The Force focus allows the magical force to be amplified in accord with the ability of the maker and the being bound. The bindings are to the lamp and the binding focus agents, and the lesser binding focus items - typically jewelry which is later activated with a subject. The binding of the subject requires activation with jewelry which may also possess a Power focus to increase raw essence. Then there is a jewelry item of transformation and spirit control. Once the items are connected the final part is the Genie. The Genie must possess high magic potential to become the primary focus of the lamp's enchantments. Insufficient potential burns out quickly and explosively.

Once the lamp and it's enchantments and foci are established, and the binding foci are ready it is time to find the genie. The specifics are simple- high magical potential and ability to bind the being. Many simple naive starting spell casters fit the profile. Talent and experience is not so important as the potential since the lamp and binding power up the magics available. Summoned entities may work with bargaining or tricks, but outright compulsion works as well. It is advisable to start with the spirit control and transformation. Once established and activated the body is transformed to a manifested material spirit form. With the control the other binding and power foci may be placed, and the lamp itself activated now binding the spirit into the lamp until summoned forth. The genie, having been transformed to spirit has no need for food, drink or air and will exist so long as the lamp does.

The magnified power and the raw talent of the genie allow the transformation magics to be used to create, change or produce anything desired by command. The various bindings constrain and contain the genie to the lamp and its surroundings and assure compliance with commands. The Force and Power foci allow the magic to reach levels that cripple most mages, leaving a magic wielder stripped of natural essence capacity without the Power and Force foci. That the genie is dependent upon the foci of the lamp and ornaments assures it remains under control and obedient.

History

The genie lamp is a legendary device.  A few have been known from the ancient Demon Age. In the Shadow Period several lamps were produced by powerful entities and wizard-kings. Few have been made since due to the difficulty.  The Lamps allowed the maker to command them frequently, but others only might make a one or two requests before the Lamp went inactive or vanished.
