Broken Trifecta
"To assume these corners must be physically separated to break the Trifecta is to assume mental traumas do not damage the Conscious Self and an individual's Trifecta as a whole."As outlined in magiphysiologist Sakalli Cilith's follow-up to her original groundbreaking paper regarding the Trifecta, Broken Trifectas are the result of, either through mistreatment or misfortune, damage to the ties holding the Astral Self, Conscious Self, and Flesh Self together. These Tethers, as she calls them, are critical to maintaining one's Trifecta, and as such, hold together otherwise disparate elements of one's personality.
Types of Broken Trifectas
Voidwalker
Charactertized by a lack of strong emotion, Voidwalkers see their Trifecta broken by the removal of their soul. This can occur by accident, birth, or traumatic injury, but many Voidwalkers go on to live fulfilling lives. Voidwalkers, originally, could pass in society as simply "strange" and "detached", rather than an outside eye determining their soul is missing.Recent years have changed that fact, though, as information about Trifectas and Broken Trifectas has spread, many are quick to-- falsely-- assume anyone "detached" is a Voidwalker.

Severed
The Severed maintain their consciousness and soul, however their physical form has somehow been lost. Typically this happens as a result of a half-failed resurrection attempt, or a curse that expelled the soul from the body. Typically, Severed appear as disembodied voices, and most reported "hauntings" are the result of a Severed reaching out for help, as Severed-- especially magic-using Severed-- are able to interact with the world at large without much difficulty.

Heart
A Heart is someone who maintains their body and soul, but lost their consciousness. They are most similar to Voidwalkers in that they are able to function normally, though they are typically characterized as being "hysterical" or "wearing their heart on their sleeve." Due to the lack of conscious Mind to counterbalance the impulsive emotions of the Soul, Hearts generally fall back on their feelings and exceptionally strong moral compasses when making decisions, rather than approaching from a more detached, logical angle.

Zombie
Zombies are an uncommon phenomenon in Chardovil, being empty bodies without a Mind or Soul to fill them. Typically the result of an expert necromancer or amateur Soulcaster, Zombies are heavily stereotyped as shambling monsters that seek only to fill the void inside them. Because of this stereotyping, Zombies are typically killed on sight and assisting one is a crime in most of Chardovil, for fear of the harm they will do the the complete Trifectas they encounter. However, rumors of a city entirely managed and run by Zombies from all over the world persist, though no public proof has ever been brought to light.

Lucidic
The Lucidic are the disembodied consciousnesses that have been severed from their body and soul-- typically through extremely powerful magic. While those without magic are often doomed to wander the world without any recognition and acknowledgement of their existence, powerful Lucidic spellcasters can find themselves still able to cast magic. Though without the "essential" components, much of a Lucidic's time can go into deciphering the memories of their spellbook and ultimately, finding their way into ordinary objects, turning such objects into powerful magic items.

Spirit
The most common type of Single-Self, Spirits are soul without a body or mind. Typically, when a body dies, the mind and soul are released together, but, often through tragedy or extraordinarily potent emotions, the mind remains trapped within the body and only the soul is released. Often disoriented, emotional, and desperate, some spirits turn to violence or vengeance, though most simply wish to rest in peace.Unbeknownst to most Chardovilians, the Astral Plane is home to many Spirits that have developed their own full lives, rather than attempting to find a traditional rest.
