Ophidians

Ophidians, also known as reptiles, once held a place of awe and mysticism. They were associated with elemental forces and primordial power. The first ophidians were born in the volcanic lairs that formed when Ashurnuq perished. Their emergence heralded a new era and the first reptiles were great and widely feared. They breathed fire and were capable of reshaping landscapes. They shed their skin over time and this act transforms the reptile a little bit each time, and embodies the cyclical nature of life and destruction. It was a ritualistic event that shed the old and brought about the new.

The greatest ophidians also boasted scales of brimstone and blood of tar, giving them a rugged infernal appearance. These physical attributes cemented their status as creatures born of fire and earth. Over time, with more and more sheddings, and slowly becoming incorporated into natural ecosystems, ophidians became the tamer reptiles known today.
