Lekto Mountains

The Lekto Mountains stand as a formidable spine of rock and ice on Chaia's Eastern Continent, a rugged testament to the world's ancient power. This extensive range carves a path roughly 1,634 miles long, predominantly north to south, with its icy shoulders thrusting skyward mainly within Atvogianland, though its southern feet rest within the borders of Sasaianland. The peaks themselves are a dramatic spectacle, with the highest summit soaring to 8,872 feet above sea level. Here, in the rarified air, a colossal glacier sprawls across approximately 26,000 square miles, a realm of perpetual ice where the average temperature hovers at a bone-chilling 16°F. From these frigid heights, the Lekto range descends through a striking succession of biomes: the hardy Taiga, the stark Cold Desert, the wind-swept Tundra, and the more sheltered Temperate Deciduous Forests clinging to its lower slopes.   At the southern curve of this immense range, nestled like a well-guarded secret, lies Feseta, the sole city and capital of Atvogianland. This strategic positioning makes the city the gateway to the mountain's formidable bounty. The Lekto is a treasure trove of ores, their stony hearts promising the raw materials for an emerging industrial age. Limited steam-powered endeavors are already beginning to bite into the rock near these slopes, seeking to unlock this subterranean wealth. Feseta, by necessity and design, has become the undisputed hub for these efforts, home to the influential Miners Guild, which directs the organized extraction of these resources. The city's importance is further cemented by the headquarters of the Gunsmiths Guild, who would undoubtedly rely on mountain-sourced metals, and the Pilots Guild, whose airships are vital for traversing the vast and often inhospitable territories surrounding the range.   For the Atvogian people, the Lekto Mountains are more than just landmarks; they are an integral part of their nomadic existence. Their culture, forged in a land of sweeping grasslands and taiga, finds both challenge and sustenance in the shadow of these peaks. It is said that the stark beauty of the Lekto—their jagged silhouettes against the vast sky, their hidden valleys, and thundering waterfalls—finds its echo in Atvogian art, influencing the motifs and moods of their creations.   Beyond the material and the martial, the Lekto Mountains resonate with a deep spiritual significance. Within their ancient folds, in the Orstad Margrave, the Atvogian folk religion of Vojo Mogn first took root. This shamanistic tradition, focused on communion with the spirits that dwell in the natural world, was born from the very essence of the Lekto, a testament to the mountains' power to inspire awe and a profound connection to the forces that shape the land and the lives of those who dwell there. Thus, the Lekto Mountains are not merely a geographical feature but a vital source of resources, a strategic linchpin, a cultural touchstone, and a sacred cradle for the people of Atvogianland.
