Widely worshipped within halfling and elven culture, she is largely considered to be the deity of love and protector of the trysts of lovers. Those who work in secrecy and trickery often ask for her blessing. She is the Goddess of the First Moon, itself a gift from her onto the people of Cevasia, so that the paths of travellers may be shone by her light even in the dark of the night. She is a goddess that values unburdened freedom, empathy, living life at its fullest, wonderlust, warmth, the revelatory power of dreams, and detachment from material possessions. Selûne's followers are travellers and voyagers of all kind, and they are expected from their goddess to never settle in one place, as Selûne considers it a giving up on life's opportunities and a closure of the soul from the wider world and people. Blessed is the night lighted up by the light of her Moon and her stars, and blessed are those who seek truths and new experiences in such a blessed state.   In religious arts, Selûne is often described as a beautiful elven woman, with butterfly wings containing all the beauty of a clear night sky. She is often depicted as having dark hair, silvery eyes, and a coy but distant smile, wearing diaphanous gowns and sometimes accompanied by swarms of butterflies. Otheriwse, or in addition to this feature, she is also depicted with olive-coloured skin tone, or even a blue skin, with white milky hair, with her body and limbs that create the edges of the shadows. All these visuals are equally considered holy and trustful, as Selûne is known for changing appearance in a constant way, and her depictions all want to highlight her patronage over the twilight, the Moon, and the night sky.   Selûne and her faithful hold creatures that symbolize freedom and the night sky as beautiful and holy. Butterflies are a particular favorite, and the appearance of swarms of them is often seen as a sign of the goddess' favor.

Territories

In accordance to Selûne's wishes, her followers have spread through the world, bringing her influence on every road, and without ever settling anywhere in particular, although she is particularly held dear by sailing communities in Selepinia in the Tirrenian continent and the eladrin minority of the Elven Kingdom of Elessar in Estria.

Mythology & Lore

Selûne is an old deity, one of the oldest, and her history is subject to many different and even contradicting accounts, in part because the tradition of her Church is passed orally for the most part. It is said she was Corellon's wife for a long time, and she may still be, but still she left Corellon's home in favour of travelling the multiverse and to be an example, a guide and companion for all her followers. It is also said that, while other gods busied themselves with Cevasia, Selûne built the heavens and put the stars in proper place to create constellations. Her greatest gift to the people of Cevasia is their first moon though, which was named Selûne after her.   In her earliest days, another god, and an enemy of the goddess Lamashtu, was her mentor. Lamashtu laid a trap for the Mentor God and stripped him of his beast domain, ripping it from his godly essence. As he died, he gifted Selûne with the domain of travel; she has traveled the planes and worlds since, opposing both oppression and Lamashtu wherever she encounters them, and spreading her word while making an effort to experience new wonders when she can.   Arose as a goddess, Selûne joined the Coalition of Gods against Tharizdun, and battled with the Ravaging Beast alongside the other main deities of the time. Later, she had a whirling romance with Corellon, the creator of elves, possibly marrying him, and sided with him in his fight against Lolth and her authoritarian outlook. Once the conflict settled in a stalemate, Selûne parted ways with Corellon on amicable terms, wishing instead to travel the worlds and walk among the stars.   Perhaps by chance, Selûne has been involved in the creation or freeing of a number of minor deities. She is said to accidentally have freed Granny Rat, the rat goddess of infection and parasites, from her confines in Abaddon. She has birthed many half-mortal sons and an immortal one with Corellon. She is said to have accidentally created  the Black Butterfly by a pattern she unwittingly placed in the stars. The empyreal lord is even known as "Selûne's Shadow".   Selûne isn't a warrior deity, yet she has never refrained from a fight against those who provoked her wrath. She is one of the 4 goddesses who destroyed a Demon Lord in their own fortress in the Abyss to punish them for the murder of a Selûnite priestess whom Selûne particularly loved.

Tenets of Faith

1. Seize your own destiny by pursuing your passions. 2. Let the shadows protect you from the burning light of fanatics and the absolute darkness of oppressors. 3. Walk unbridled and untethered, finding and forging new memories and experiences.

Worship

As the goddess of travel and journeys, and there are few who traverse the roads who wouldn't spare her a prayer or a simple-worded plea for benediction. Scouts, sailors, and those who travel for travel's sake make up a large number of her followers, though her focus on luck also makes her a favorite deity among gamblers and thieves. Whatever their calling, followers of the Song of Spheres search the world for new experiences, and try to live their life to the fullest.   Many consider the Moonweaver to be the goddess of love. She has many followers in elven and halfling society. It is very difficult to encounter lovers on a tryst, as the Moonweaver creates the shadows for these secret meetings to take place. "Those who work in darkness and trickery often ask for her blessing.

Priesthood

The informal clergy of Selûne is primarily composed of clerics, though on occasion bards are called by some song or whisper in the night to follow her path. Her clergy usually garb themselves in white robes with black trim and silk caps, highlighted by varied decorative elements (especially among priests of high status), and usually accompanied by one or more starknives.   Temples of Selûne are few and far between, with most locations no more than roadside shrines erected in her honor. Travelers often leave markings and dedications in newly discovered areas and secluded locales. Those few temples that do exist often serve as observatories and are open to the night sky, with plentiful texts, charts, and instruments to help track the stars and determine astronomical events.   Dedicated to the faith of Selûne , seven bell towers are believed to have existed at one point throughout Cevasia. The seven towers represented the Seven Towers of Selûne's palace and each tower housed a sacred Bell of Mercy. Pilgrimages to all seven towers were often undertaken by Selûne's faithful, albeit most if not all of them are now lost to history.
