Mermaids

A mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. They are not to be trusted tho. They are beautiful and drags poor sailors to the bottom of the ocean to feed. If they catch a ship sailing into their waters, they attack. the sailors who survive they put on an Island and make one of them decide in what order they are going to feed them. Who lives another week and who dies.

In some rare cases, some sailors have been able to convince the mermaids that they are strong enough to be a potential mate. The offsprings of Mermaids and sailors become water nymphs.

Common Taboos

Mating with a strong person with another specie the other mermaids never know off results in ugly dark magical curses. A Mermaid falling in love with a sailor, or land folk without a test of his strength is a taboo for the mermaids. Their customs forbids them to kill an unapproved offspring, but are required to give a curse of some sort. This is the reason why the mermaids became slaughtered in Teal Depths. The Bursting Whale, a criminal pub in Sovereign Rock, was founded in remembrance of the believed extinction of mermaids and nymphs.    The Dark Elves and the Dreors are species created by those terrible curses.
