The Kraken Coast
The overall region where the Kraken reigns supreme is now known as the Kraken Coast. It is located along the Ofundan Ocean between the distant shores of Sapa Ti and the southern coastline of Mana Jalqabaa. It currently composes the territories of Moeras, The Dresh Plantations, Virthal, and Kabout-Ral, though as the Kraken's conquest expands this sphere of control may change as well. The territory is named for the Kraken who now rules the area, though who or what the Kraken is remains something of a mystery. The creature is colossal in size, visible miles in the distance when above ground, and is thought to have originated from somewhere within the Plane of Water. While it has been given the name of Kraken by sailors (a title it has not refuted) it resembles more of a sea serpent in appearance, with enormous yellow eyes that pierce through the souls of men and tendrils from along its body extending out like ropes for miles at a time. The Kraken is intelligent, capable of speech, sorcery and eldritch rituals, and the creature can control the weather to an alarming degree, causing the climate of entire regions to shift, and for rain to fall unrelenting over the shores of Virthal and Moeras. The Kraken's overall goals are unknown but at the moment it seems content to pursue the path of the conqueror, taking the nation of Virthal as his own and subjugating large parts of Kabout-Ral to his whim.
The Kraken's first and most famous action was completely obliterating the nation of Moeras, from which the entire region has not recovered, sinking the capital below the waves and drowning countless thousands in its storms and tidal waves. The remnants of Moeras have fractured as a result, and the Kraken has been content to pick off the remaining peoples one by one, all the while searching through the remnants of Virthal for ...something.
The Kraken uses mortal agents, primarily from the plane of water, but increasingly from its subjugated peoples in Virthal and Kabout-Ral. Its elite warriors are known as the Fathomless, first of his legions. They are often Gillmen, or Water Genasi, or Mermaids cloaked in green and gold helms that cover their eyes and body, but not their faces, with coral armor and tritons of gold.
Then there are the Drowned Guard, made from those taken from the mainland and ritualistically suffocated beneath the waves, reborn as servants of the Kraken. The leader of the drowned guard is a former pirate captain named Mullein, a sea dwarf turned wretched servant. Several other members of the Broken Spine and indeed at least one member of the Black Table serve the Kraken's will. These pirates will customarily take prisoners on the ocean's waves, giving them a chance to drown in the Kraken's waters and rise again, or drown in Gozreh's and die a choking death. To drink the Kraken's water means to be killed while consuming the Blood of a Titan, binding them to its will and making them partially primordial.
Kraken's Rest: Deep underwater off the coast of Virthal lies the Kraken's Rest. Raised from the depths of the plane of water to the material plane of Celasper is an underwater city and palace to seat the Kraken's forces, it's servants, and the Kraken themselves. A pavilion of ships make up the city's coastline above the waves, with the city accessible below through a great and terrible whirlpool that will shred all those who are disloyal to the Kraken's will. A large tear in the plane of water nearby ensures the fresh arrival of more and more loyalists to the plane of Celaper, with Marids being granted titles of nobility within the Kraken's ranks. Tritons, Sahuagin, Water Genasi, Mermaids and other aquan kin have sensed the weakness of Gozreh and now seek to fall in line with the Blood of the Titan.
The Kraken's overall goals are unknown and perhaps unknowable. Some speculate the Kraken is the spear of a terrible invasion, others speculate its machinations will return it to the plane of water to usurp the Cerulean Court itself. Others whisper that the Kraken will be content with nothing less than godhood itself. The Kraken's arrival on the eve of the great Silence cannot be a coincidence. Whether it foresaw the weakness of the gods, or merely wished to exploit it, the Kraken represents an existential threat to all peoples of the southern coastline, who are too fractured and terrified to resist it's terrible wrath.
