Kordium
A thick liquid found in the Kordarum Kingdom.
Properties
Material Characteristics
A thick liquid, pure black.
Physical & Chemical Properties
It has a high viscosity, and while in its raw state will stick to most materials for the exception of glass. While in its liquid form it can be very toxic to the touch, burning and killing most organic matter it comes into contact with.
Compounds
This material can be used as a source of fuel. In its most crude form it is used as an explosive or biohazard. With some refinement it can be burned to produce energy, making light and running vehicles, however giving off a somewhat toxic fume. In its most pure form all pollutants are removed and what is left is a clear liquid, no longer explosive but able to power more refined equipment and vehicles for long amounts of time.
Geology & Geography
This material is unique to the southern arm of Kordara. Also on the island off the coast of Kordara.
Origin & Source
Largely unknown, thought to occur naturally.
History & Usage
History
Upon the discovery of this material by the dwarves of Kordara, it has been used to produce a number of inventions. At first it was used for simple explosive, but later it was refined to power trains, firearms, warforged and more recently airships.
Everyday use
It is used to power the Kordarum Kingdom.
Industrial Use
To power factories and vehicles, animate warforged and produce explosions.
Refinement
Although relatively useless in its raw form it can be distilled to produce two products. One product (Black Kordium) is extremely volatile and can be used in explosives. The other product (Grey Kordium) is used for fuel and can be burned to produce energy. Though further distillation a third product (White Kordium) can be made that although produces less power burns much cleaner and slower. This results in zero pollutants being expelled and the fuel lasting much longer than its counterpart, with the potential to recharged and reused.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
The burning and use of this material (except White Kordium) can produce excessive pollution.
The refining of raw kordium produces a useless form of Kordium (Brown Kordium) that is neither explosive or a fuel, thus being discarded. However it is still very hazardous to organic life, the only use for it being in war as a bioweapon or as a pesticide.
The explosions from black kordium produce thick fumes and smokes, which in short term can cause nausea. However the long term effect of this smoke can cause a special disease called Kordosis, which can prove fatal. Grey Kordium can also have the same effects, however these would manifest much slower due to the Grey Kodium being more pure.
Environmental Impact
The distilling of this material causes brown kordium, which due to the lack of useful properties is normally dumped. This causes all life to wither and die, or in rare cases mutate into grotesque versions of themselves.
Reusability & Recycling
White Kordium can be enriched again via magic or other forms of energy, thus being a renewable energy source.
Distribution
Trade & Market
This is commonly found in Kordara, however it has been traded to Hebsunet to power their constructs for their high quality glass among other things.
Storage
Freezing this substance has proved useful for transportation, although getting it to the desired temperature can prove difficult. Glass is the only substance it does not attach itself to, thus being the only way to contain it.
Type
Ore/Mineral
Value
Regular kordium is considered pricey though affordable. However white kordium is considered a luxury and only the elite can afford to attain it.
Odor
Nasty and repugnant
Taste
Burning and toxic
Color
Pitch black
