Dwarf

Dwarves are a stout, hardy people.  No other race has been able to maintain their independance from the Cavalieath Empire like the Dwarves, though at a cost.  Once a unified people, the last two millennia have caused a social and cultural rift between the two largest strongholds, so that they while they seem similar to outsiders, Dwarves from one hold can barely recognize or fathom the culture of the other. 
Dwarves are relatively new to their understandings of arcane magic, only picking it up in desperation during the many incursions and losses suffered at the hands of Imperial Elven armies during the last 800 years.  As such arcane study is viewed as both an exciting and proud new endeavor by the Dwarves of the South, but also as a suspicious and dangerous craft by the Dwarves of the North.
