Rue Sunless

Young Lord Rue Darwin Sunless

I wouldn't say i prefer books over a good quarrel, but it does get repetitive from time to time.

Personal history

Other Worlds

Rue was always a bit... angry. Growing up with anger issues, he sought to put his energy in something... less destructive. He started forcing himself to endulge in the world of books, reading about all sorts of far-away lands, critters of land, sky and water, fauna growing in the most absurd conditions, and the heroes that make all of this theirs to conquer. Rue never sat still while reading, always either steadily rocking back and forth or walking from one end of the house to the other.

Aureon

Rue wasn't contempt with just reading about the wondrouse worlds that exist out there, he had to experience them himself to the fullest. Through the age of 14 to 17, he scoured through the duchy of venture, inspecting the airships in the distanc, the twin ponds and rivers that flow into the western arkionian sea. What he found wasn't fulfillment, no, since there was yet much to see, and touch, and smell. True fulfillment can only come with the knowledge of what makes the world tick. And with that thought, the young elf found what will eventually become his calling, and the ticket towards a life full of exploration: The god of magic as a tool and wisdom.
Those who preach
What at first was a simple thought quickly turned into a real belief. His parents, Philip Sunless and Bea Sunless, both politicians in the duchy of venture welcomed their sons change of heart. Since Aureon is a prominent god throughout the political landscape, especially in the court of law, they only saw upsides with Rue pursuing this god.

Rite of Passage

With his eighteenth birthday, like all his brothers and sister before him, he was to earn his rite of passage by scoring his first independent job. Having a hard time, due to his still chaotic, non-professional look coupled with the occasional anger outburst, no prestigious organization wanted to take their chance on him. Rue felt desperate, he needed to find a place to work, or else the family would withdraw their ressources from him, just like with his half-sister Hannah Sunless.
Doomsguard
The last day approached fast, and with it, the deadline of disappointment. Desperate and without a flash of light, Rue almost gave up, when suddenly a shady figure emerged, who was later introduced as Raul Blurrycloak. Raul offered Rue a helping hand, letting him join the Doomsguard then and there. The apprentice had to only take part in expeditions and keep book about virtually anything that happened. Rue gladly accepted and set out to his first job at eighteen.

Outfall

Being in the Doomsguard right before his 20th birthday, Rue was growing more displeased with the organization by the day. The longer he stayed, the shadier the expeditions got. From cultivating poisonous rats to literally killing off stray herbivore creatures minding their business, everything was pushing the line of "oh, this could be of interest" into "this has nothing to do with research anymore". Rue fell out with Raul during a huge argument of morals where Rue ended up leaving the Doomsguard. He had already made a name for himself as excellent scribe, even amongst the Doomsguards biggest rivals, the Society of Sensation.
Quite a brain yer got dere kiddo! Lemme see, 'er a follower of Aureon aye? Lotta us are. Gonna fit in quite nicely there boyo! Whaddaya say eh, gon' join 'r lil group?
— Bucky
Those who intrigue
Amost immediately after leaving the Doomsguard, Rue was approached by Bucky. A tiny dwarf that seemed to not have left the nearest forest for at least a decade. He had moss over and in his hair, signs of a starting birds nest on his head and a cane made of elderwood. He recruited Rue for his devotion to Aureon, his magical aura and the brain inside his head. He was assigned to a duo-group, where he met his current friend in battle, Herold Kieselauge.

Currently

Rue and Herold have been on mostly wildlife expeditions for a good four years now, gathering flora and hunting fauna for research purposes. With Herolds eye for fights and a thirst for every advantage he can get his hands on in battle, combined with the strategic and broadly scoped knowledge of Rue, the two are somewhat of a dynamic duo.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

I usually try to help my friends out as good as possible, even if it means giving up personal gain. So in short, I am the one to take one for the team.
I am the one striking up conversations and am constantly trying to read the other person. After all, people are just as interesting to study as nature.
My memory is keen. Once I understand it, I can never forget. Though nothing is more for eternity than written notes. That is what my journal is for.

Vices & Personality flaws

When someone acts or is really stupid and actively doesn't know what they are talking about, I could lash out and have an anger outburst.
I am so taken aback by what life has to offer that I simply can not resist to not try something. If I see a plant, I have to touch it. If I see something that looks edible, I have to taste it. Even if the side effects are clearly visible.
I actively avoid the Doomguard personell. Not of fear, but of sheer annoyance. If I have to engage in some sort of interaction with them, I always try to make a fool of them.

Brain and Fist

Herold Kieselauge and Rue Sunless would embark on many research quests throughout the next three years. Most of them sending them south of the duchy of venture, into the largest forest on Arkion. Wildlife studies ofte didn't stay within the obervatory stage, but as the Society always preaches:
To look or not to look is not the question here. We always look. But what seperates us from the rest, is that we do not only look, but interact as well.
— Society of Sensation

Although the duo rarely had to resolve to physical violence on their missions due to the positive image of the organizations, the occasional run-in with rascals or the Doomgsguard are unavoidable. Due to this, both Rue and Herold are no strangers to bruises and the heat of battle.

Current Family Relations

Rue has made something of himself. His parents are proud of him and support him with whatever they can. Due to his newfound freedom, he also now has made contact with Hannah Sunless and sits down for the occasional chit-chat. The one thing Rue is still a bit worried about is the bad blood left behind between him and the Doomsguard. Since they are a vigorouse organization known for some sketchy stuff, who knows what they are plotting against him as revenge.
