Family Sunless

Structure

The Sunless Family is an aristocratic organization that, like many others, split itself from the main branch of the dutchy of venture to occupy a larger area of land. The familys leader, as well as the next eight highest family members are inducted into the political outer circle of the Dutchy of Venture. Together, the Council, consisting of the top nine family members of each family, oversees the Ventures' Lawbook. To determine the strongest family members in a family, the Sunless Family specifically holds a contest every three years which is very similar to the Black Moon Market Entry Ritual, measuring the highest potential of the family members in a three day long contest, with the most prominent category being accomplishments.

Culture

Being competitive among your peers is expected from you inside the Sunless Family. The more you did in your life, the more prestige you get and the higher your rank, subsequently granting you access to more treasures. This results in a substantial amount of the family being boasters, cocky and frankly, good at talking and manipulating. To people outside the family, the Sunless are often overly polite and helpful, though for selfish reasons. This is not to say that all Sunless are pricks, there are genuinly nice and righteous people, though few in number. These are weirdly though often on the more powerful and influential end.

Public Agenda

The Sunless Family prides itself over its political influence over the Dutchy of Venture. Although they themselves are nothing in comparison to the Main Branches of the dutchy, the opinion of the inner and outer circle members of the family are highly valued due to their history of calculated successes. Lots of advisors for dukes, barons, sages and the like stem from the Sunless Family.

History

Terror

As an open secret among the Sunless family, and almost every aristocratic family in the Dutchy of Venture, it is known that these family branches are descendants of brutal vampiric beings which terrorized the south western domains for the pursuit of blood and havoc. Now, this all happend some hundred years ago.

Mercy

After the lands were decimated and less creatures with even less blood were around, the vampires found another method of survival. Vampires able to feast on dreams, feelings (especially in the extremes), or even tension started to pop up all around the lands. With a good portion of them realizing they wouldn't need to hunt for survival anymore, and with the outlook of trade and flourishing lands resembling the outside of their domain, those standing for peace have started a revolt on their still savage, blood lusting brothers and sisters.

The Birth of Venture

The revolting vampires were able to thin out their enemies enought for those who still stand to retreat. With the bloodshed finally coming to an end and close to no population left to tell the tale, the newly called Venture Vampires cleaned up the mess and, on top of the corpses of fallen civilians, built the Dutchy of Venture.

Rise of Family Sunless

Having stabilized the lands around the Dutchy of Venture itself, the Inner Council wanted to expand their territory for the growing population. More towns, crop fields, churches, and work needed to be built, among other things, to ensure the stable growth of the dutchy. Major members of the Main Branch were picked out to marry outwards and begin claiming their own territory, among them, the Sunless family resides. Under Theodor Sunless I, also known as the Duskbringer, the Sunless Family established its morals and habits. Being driven was the biggest rule of this new lord. Everyone wanting to claim the status of Sunless needed to be responsible enough to wield such a title. Thus the Sunless Familys members are all obsessed with accomplishments.
