Warning Aura

Profound Projections

Captain, I don't feel so good...
— Soldier on the front line
Aurist Catalurgists have the unique ability to modify, enhance, and project the electromagnetic fields that surround them. This craft is honed through connection to memories and understanding of feeling; as such, they're able to imbue a projected aura with a specific sensation, affecting all within a set radius. A Warning Aura is just such a technique -- using memory of what it feels like to be within the area of unease upon Caed's Island, an Aurist Catalurgist can project feelings of axiety, unease, or discomfort.

Technique

When an Aurist projects an emotion into their surroundings, it's not as simple as just thinking of an emotion and then pushing it out into the world; they need to have experienced the feeling of emotions being pushed into their own minds from an outside source. It needs to have been strong enough, impactful enough, to leave a lasting impression in their memories.
For most Aurists, the best place to experience that is at Caed's Island. On this island, radiating outward from the God-husk known as Caed is a far reaching "aura of unease" that gets stronger closer to the gigantic undead deity. Generally, the Aurists that experience the strongest version of the aura are the ones that can replicate it the strongest, too.
Pay attention to the discomfort of another being's willpower changing how you feel.

This aura can be used in a variety of situations, once it's been mastered by the Catalurgist. In some cases, they use it in order to silently signal companions from a distance; in others, it's used offensively to distract or slow down enemies by overwhelming them with negative emotion.

Catalurgy

Using Ichor, the blood found in the veins of old, dead gods, humanity is able to claim a sliver of that power for themselves. Depending on the Ichor used, a different type of Catalurgy will be able to be used -- such as Genesis, Transmutive, or Aural.
Aural
Aural Catalurgists use the power of Ichor to infuse the electromagnetic fields around them with energy and emotion. In some cases this can be as simple as pushing heat into their aura, then projecting it to a pinpoint location -- in others, they're able to close it off and "harden" it as a sort of physical armor for themselves.

Emotional Training

The most difficult of Aurist techniques come from attempting to spread your own emotions, and overwrite the feelings of those you're impacting. Things like Warning Auras require not only mastery over their own feelings, but attunement with their memories -- in particular, the memories gained upon Caed's Island. The more in control an Aurist is, and the more they're able to call any of their memories to the forefront, the more energy they can infuse into their aura. With mastery comes the ability to truly modify the properties of their aura, unlocking the ability for a variety of otherworldly techniques.

Aural Expertise

To begin with the Aurist focuses on the memory, at brings into mind the feeling of having unease take over their brain; the sensation fills them once more, and they redirect that into their own aura. With all types of Catalurgy, the more powerful the effect, the more Ichor is used; thus an Aurist can focus hard and infuse as much of that feeling into it as they can, at the cost of more Ichor being used; and subsequently, more Burn occuring within their body. Then they push that field outwards -- Catalurgic efficiency is also impacted by distance, and thus the cost paid to create and push that field out scales with how far it extends as well.

This is really interesting. I like that they have to had experienced it themselves to be able to project the feeling. That gives it a whole other dimension.

Thank you! :D   There's a lot of Catalurgy that feels not fully explained or thought out to me yet, and Aural catalurgy is probably the one with the most room for expansion. I think adding more "rules" like this one where you have to experience it yourself first would be a really fun way to flesh out this portion of magic in Cathedris :D

Love the details in this "magic" system - especially how the emotions come from an Aurist's own experience and how that could motivate them to make expeditions to Caed's island.
