Thegan

Thegan is the Bonte storm god and embodiment of elven warrior king honored for teaching the Bonte the tools of civilization, primarily agriculture. Called the "Great Chief of the Bonte" and The Protector, he is revered for his bravery in battle and willingness to protect the elves from all evil. The Bonte believe it was Thegan who taught them to live in walled settlements for protection and gather as one to resist the dragons that killed and captured so many of their number. As the god of storms and weather Thegan is responsible for the various manifestations of the weather, especially thunder, lightning, rain, clouds, and storms. Thus it was Thegan who decided whether there will be fertile fields and good harvests, or drought and famine and he is treated by the Bonte as the ruler of the gods. Thegan legitimizes the position of the Bonte kings, who rule the land of Bonte in the name of the gods. He watches over the kingdom and the other institutions of the state and also borders and roads.

Holidays

The Festival of Thegan a harvest celebration that takes place each autumn once the harvest is gathered. A great feast is prepared usually between the farmers and priests of Thegan. The feast generally lasts for three days when the farmers present a portion of their crops and sometimes livestock to the church. This is not viewed by the elves as a tax and is only given by those that were fortunate during the previous summer. In exchange the priests will often name a feast day in honor of the farmer's family or after a noble who makes a donation, this is a great honor and is often a competition in years of abundance.    Every nine years the Feast of Thegan becomes an even larger celebration that lasts for nine days. The last day is often provided for directly by the king or ruling noble of the settlement. The other days are hosted by noble families who compete to have the most lavish feasts where they give away numerous gifts to the poor. The year leading up to this grand festival often involves donations to build new churches or create additions which are then presented at the opening of the feasts. During these nine days priests will hold ceremonies during the day for weddings and baptisms, it is believed that Thegan personally visits these celebrations in disguise, blessing the couple or child.
