Alwin

Alwin is one of the chief deities of the Bothelm people. He is the sworn protector of the Bothelm and is honored each fall for the abundance of the harvest. The followers of Alwin preach peace and tolerance for all those in need and is temples often act as hostels to traveling merchants. Alwin embodies the natural freedoms held dear by the halflings of Bothelm but is also a brave defender of these ideals. He is said to wield a cudgel-like scepter that is covered in honey based on the idea it is easier to maintain rulership through supplication than violence, but when peace fails strength is paramount.    Followers and servants of Alwin are known for periods of intense indulgence but must also serve a period of self-denial. During these times his priests and priestesses will fast on bread and water alone denying all earthly temptations. They strive only to serve others within the church and the numerous "guests" who find sanctuary in its temples. This has led to the creation of numerous temples along well-traveled routes where merchants and caravans can find shelter and respite along with good food and wine.    The priests of Alwin also care for the land knowing that it is their gods greatest gift. His temples often reserve space for sacred groves of fruits, nuts, and grapes which are tended with great care. The core tenets of Alwin's faithful believe that while the freedom of indulgence is divine gifts are meant to be shared. Thus most of the food grown and wine brewed by his followers is not held in reserve but given freely to others. These principles along with the belief that only the most severe should be denied the sanctuary and healing of his priests has led his faithful to grow through out the land.
