Aethelu

Aethelu is the Bothelm goddess of the dawn, fertility, and the arts. Often referred to as "The Great Lady Aethelu, benefactress of all Bothelm, and mother of all knowledge." It is required by the leaders of all settlements to attend her temple for a yearly festival honoring the rebirth of spring. During the spring festival boughs of evergreens and wreaths prepared during the winter would be given away along with a feast of sacrificial livestock to be shared by all.    Aethelu's temples are incredibly popular with woman being filled with large ranks of priestesses and young men that hope to someday marry them. It has even become popular among the Bothelm to serve in her temple for a year before their wedding in hope to receive Aethula's continued blessings through out their marriage. The temples of Aethelu therefore are some of the wealthiest institutions in all of Bothelm, thankfully this wealth is used to help her followers promote education and the spread of knowledge.   During years of abundance the church will support great competitions of dance, song, the recitation of poems, and storytelling. These events often resemble impromptu festivals to outsiders, often taking place through entire days and late into the evening. These special occasions create a great draw for pilgrims to visit the cities where they can also be tended for illness.
