Stonemaster

Spellstones are marvellous things, tirelessly useful and of immense beauty. However, they are certainly not all rosey. There exist spellstones that can kill with a single touch, and others which explode when dropped or jostled. One who has the skill to determine the nature of a stone, and then attend to it appropriately, has the power to save lives, or even cities, and amass fortunes in the process.

Career

Qualifications

The stonemaster is often born with a natural magical attunement, and is trained for decades often from a very young age. It is an incredibly specialist skill, that requires knowledge of many fields.

Career Progression

They must learn a great deal of geography, geology, and gemmology. Once they have grasped the three G's a training in magic and smithing follows. This allows them to identify and safely handle most spellstones. A tour of the continent is often taken, with visits to notable archives, libraries, and spellstones of note being essential. At this point they may join a guild and set up their own premises/practise. Although not before satisfying whatever entry requirement the guild deems fit. From this point they take upon themselves an apprentice to lighten their load, and begin work on more speciallist endeavours such as wandcraft, stone-revival, or specific research.

Social Status

One of the most renowned of professions, a stonemaster sufficiently qualified and renowned could take a crown from the head of a king if they so wished, and none would stop them.
