Ice Bear

"Dad, why does the coat-of-arm of our house feature an Ice Bear?" Michael Winter asked.
-"You did not seriously just ask me that son. I already told you that TWENTY YEARS AGO! Damn I almost fell of my horse." Arthur Winter Answered.
"I'm afraid I was not paying attention back then."
-"That's the smartest thing I've heard you say in a long time."
"Yeah yeah, no need to be angry about it dad, just be glad I ask now."
-"What is our house's name? You do know what is your family name right?"
"Winter."
-"Exactly. And to represent that we use an Ice Bear, it's a strong animal, a vicious hunter, and not bothered by the elements. It's quite simple."
"But there are no Ice Bears on our lands. And to be honest, the Spotted Brown Bears we have aren't even that vicious. They basically only eat berries."
-"Son, Ice Bears are four times the size of the Spotted Brown Bears we have in our woods, and on the icy planes they call home there are no berries. They eat things like moose and whale. And humans, they can claw through solid rock walls to try to get to food."
"But still, they live thousands of miles to the North. Or South, I'm not sure."
-"Uhh, South I think. Not sure about that either, to be very honest."
"LOL"
-"What?"
"L.O.L. It's a modern thing dad, you wouldn't understand."
-"But anyway, we're not the only house with a not local animal."
"I guess."
-""I guess"?. What's the sigil of the King?"
"Three lions."
-"Oh, you know! Do lions live here?"
"No, don't think so."
-"House Timtim?"
"Eight golden potatoes."
-"Are potatoes gold?"
"No."
-"House Sarpi?"
"Snake biting a.. Uhm pig?"
"Boar. But same thing."
-"Neither snakes nor boars where they live. They have that to piss off House Everett"
"I don't know that one."
-"They don't exist anymore. They used to have a Boar as their sigil"

-"But Johannes Winter, the founder of our house, supposedly had a pet Ice Bear."

-"Ice is generally speaking cool, yes, that's correct. Can't have hot ice."
