Morovia

Morovia. The mere mention of the name and most people in The Elysian Empire shudder in fear. It is seen as backward, but they have some of the best vampire hunters in the empire.   The ban on magic is seen as crazy, even if magic can have a corrupting effect on the weak minded in Morovia. But as long as Morovia pays its taxes, the empire don't really care.   Anyone coming to Morovia will notice just how untamed it is. The towns seem like islands of light in a sea of shadows. Everything has a hostile feel to it. Especially after dark...The feeling goes from hostile to hateful...The trees almost seem to reach for you..to impale you on sharp branches..The wines almost want to choke the life out of you.   But is not just a feeling..There are undead everywhere. So, if you want to travel through the wilderness, you need to be prepared. What you don't know WILL kill you.     Experienced rangers travel at night and sleep during the day, since sleeping outside during night time is a death sentence.     Magic in Morovia is a sore subject. Most kinds of magic, clerical magic excluded if it destroys the undead, is banned in Morovia for a very good reason: It corrupts the weak minded..They fall victim to something called "The Whispers", a strange malady that afflicts all Morovian non-clerical casters. Clerics can block the whispers if they adhere to their deity's tenants.   The Whispers and the "Dark Gifts": It is said that the Whispers can grant dark powers if you are affected by them. Anyone who accepts the evil gifts are doomed forever, and you might be granted the gift of undeath.   The Whispers and non-Morovians: The Whispers can only be heard by non-morovians if they go out of their way to contact "The Great Darkeness" while in Morovia.   The neighbor to The South   Ostaria is the closest neighbor, and for some reason Osterians hate Morovia with a passion. Sure, the nations have been at war with each other a few times, but that was politics..Nothing personal. But Ostaria just wont let it go. Morovians love to tease Ostarians because it's just so easy. What's even funnier, atleast to Morovians, is that according to Imperial law, the provinces are forbidden to declare war on each other. Morovians get a good chuckle out of that one, and it makes Ostaria even madder. Brilliant.

Culture

Paranoid, xenophobic and superstitious. Living in a kingdom where the dead rule the night tend to highten your perception to the world around you. It takes a toll on your sanity.
