St Ajora

THE VAGRANT STORY.   The small desert town of Bervenia was home to an unknown florist goldelf woman of no importance. The town was impoverished, with a thick layer of ash blanketing the sky from the Great Cataclysm a month earlier, little plant life was able to grow. The woman would struggle to sell anything. One evening, a group of travelling Human traders from the south were passing through the town. The woman saw an opportunity to make some coin, and when one of the merchants offered to see her other wares, the pair went back to her home. There, the man forced himself upon her, and left her beaten and crying. Several months later a boy was born, which the mother named Ajora after the native bronze-ajar flower - which is able to grow in even the harshest conditions.   The story goes that Ajora did not cry or shed any tears at birth, and minutes after birth, the newborn would raise his arm and point towards the town well, which had been ravaged by the plague for a couple weeks. The shaken locals thought the mother to be a witch and the cursed baby as the cause for the disease, and a few mobs formed looking to lynch the family. The pair moved further south towards the marshland to escape the mob, and lived in a small fishing village for a number of years. When Ajora was 5 years of age, a few blight-ridden citizens from Bervenia encountered the pair in the village, and immediately took Ajora's mother and burned her at the stake. Ajora would stumble his way in with a travelling band of merchants to Mullonde, where he was abandoned yet again and learned to live on the streets. Soon after his departure from the fishing village, the inhabitants and the surrounding lands were taking from a devastating series of flash floods.   He would make friends with local street orphans, doing what they had to to survive. The boy had the ability to conjur small flames and sparks from his fingertips, which he would use to cook stray animals and start fires for warmth. He would teach these skills to his new friends, who never saw anything like this in their lives. A few years went on and Ajora and his friends grew a name for themselves as street magicians and swindlers. His magic was something no one had ever possessed before - they regularly performed miraculous feats of healing and conjuring of fire and lightning. Different groups of people started to make connections between Ajora and the Great Cataclysm, believing the two to be one in the same. As witnesses reported seeing the celestial object fall from the Heaven's Band in the sky, people started worshipping the Half-elf as a demigod incarnate. Ajora and his friends became rather wealthy and famous, and with his came a manner of arrogance. This culminated in the group to announce their Vagrant Journey across the ocean east of Garriland, where they would explore new lands, a journey no one had returned from before. From then on, the young man and his friends became known as the Braves. The boy left on his journey, 25 years after his birth.   The group returned to Mullonde 5 years later, and Garriland rejoiced and ascended Ajora as a Saint. This celebrant attitude was not shared with everyone, and many smaller groups were divided and still claimed Ajora to be cursed. The Braves were met with riches, power, sex, and servitude, and were hailed as demigods. This did not last long though, as a year later and a week after his 31st year, Ajora was found dead hanging in an alley way, with his hands and feet cut off and his eyes gouged. This event divided the population, as no one knew what really happened, who did it, or why, and many different groups had their own beliefs. This death set in motion a number of events that would influence the world, including the Grand Goldelf Migration to Fovhram, the founding of Sondur and Hillend, and the many wars that would be fought in his name.
