Terra Consortium

Terra Consortium is the largest nation on Terra, both in terms of population and area, occupying almost the entirety of the Ephon continent, with the exception of the far north. It is a federal republic, containing 4 provinces; Atrost, Beauzark, Corveu, and Talamur, which all participate in both provincial and federal elections, used in deciding the legislative assembly and the head of state. The head of state is known as the president, and operates separately from the legislature. As of 3592 IC, the president is currently Aevlin Caz-Teurva.

Culture

The people of Terra Consortium follow the creed of Apsirasism and abide by the legal code of the Apsiras Referendum, based on the writings of Reutcaz Apsiras in his manifesto, The Lineal Fault. The people of Terra Consortium do not marry and do not raise their own children, considering marriage and blood-related family to be innate infringements of individual self-determinism. Religion and idolatry are frowned upon. Artists and entrepreneurs legally use aliases to separate themselves from their work; it is believed that this encourages appreciation of concepts, ideas, and abstract things over the idolizing of individuals, as the glorification of others is thought to be a distraction from personal achievement.   Apsirasist Fundamentalists are individuals who take self-determinism and self-improvement to the extreme. Possessing magical abilities from ozmyonic ritual, they lock themselves in fully-autonomous shelters to achieve their solitary ambitions. These shelters are called cenobia; a cenobium has automated functions that upkeep a garden, used for food and concentration, and are only visited by outsiders once per month for regular maintenance. The Apsirasist Fundamentalists who live in these cenobia strive for superior knowledge and breakthroughs in their field, viewing the regular trappings of society as an intrusion, a distraction to greatness. Through magical insight and uninhibited solitude, these cenobites are known for unlocking great secrets. This program/lifestyle is funded by the state, and is an option for anyone who has completed Advanced Pedagogy, or for the most exceptional children from Basic Pedagogy.

Public Agenda

To secure Terran independence and self governance for a united humanity; to defend the individual liberties of mankind and those who choose to live among them.

Assets

A modest nation that only has a few metropolitan city areas. It mostly thrives on forestry and local produced items, relying on other nations for many raw materials, especially in terms of metals. Terra Consortium possesses a considerable amount of trained soldiers in the Consortium Sentinel Force, a couple aircraft carriers, and a single sea-bound destroyer ship.

History

After the Siege of Engaelsphyzos, the insurgents occupied the Sanguinary Palace for a moot; several resistance groups disagreed on what would become of the new nation to take the Carcid Empire's place. An artificer and staunch Apsirasist named Tonna Makono supposedly talked down a heated confrontation, convincing the moot to disarm completely. If a solution was to be found without any more killing, Makono offered that the debate should be held within her psychic nexus; that way, she claimed, the merit of truth would not be held back, making the debate uninhibited by personal animosity, and information would be imparted quickly and efficiently. The exhausted insurgents reluctantly agreed. Within a 12 hour session on the nexus, power was yielded to Árman Selik and his militia, and so they worked to establish Apsirasism as the basis of the national law, making Selik the first president of Terra Consortium. Selik kick-started the economy by adopting the scarab, benefiting from Serethia's booming economy, and employing volunteers to enforce the new Apsiras Referendum. Though sadness and anger abounded from the people separated from their newborns, the sheer exhaustion from the war and the state benefits to economically ruined settlements was enough to coerce most into begrudging acceptance. By a few generations, most people of the Consortium have forgotten the old ways of family tradition, and willingly abide by the Apsiras Referendum, believing it to be for the betterment of mankind.   All of Corveu and Atrost joined the Consortium by late 3500 IC. Talamur joined in 3504 IC. Beauzark joined in 3510 IC.   Though sometimes called a tyrant for the forceful and sudden separation of newborn children from parents across Ephon, Selik and his administration established the Terra Consortium's unique identity with efficiency, and willingly permitted a legislative assembly and court system independent from his direct control. To this day, nobody knows the details of the psychic debate. However, rumors in history suggest an alarming rate of mental illness and suicide befalling the participants on the nexus, including Selik himself, whose term ended abruptly in 3511 IC after he committed suicide.

Demography and Population

As of 3595 IC:   Fertility Rate: 1.9   Population: 353.5 million   Species: 76.5% Humans, 10.5% Duskman, 8.1% Mixed Ancestry, 2.2% Aaşgen, 1.3% Sethodj, 1.1% Titanborn, 0.3% Other   Human Ethnic Groups: 35.7% Talamese, 32.1% Artanbo, 20.5% Corvirian, 10% Atrostvalan, 1.7% Tsov

Territories

The provinces of Atrost, Beauzark, Corveu, and Talamur are all ancestral homelands of different human ethnic groups. They are relatively independent and have some cultural differences, but still abide by federal laws, including those bound to the Apsiras Referendum. Beauzark, while still being part of Terra Consortium, is notorious for their breach of federal laws, particularly the raising of one's biological children. However, logistical issues in enforcing these laws so far south renders many areas of Beauzark essentially independent, and sometimes even anarchistic. In northern Corveu is the occupied city of Jyemasav, which strives to reunite with Neo Tsov Imperium.

Military

There are 3 official military branches in Terra Consortium; the Terran Sky Brigade (TSB), the Consortium Sentinel Force (CSF), and the Ephon Coast Rangers (ECR).

Technological Level

Terra Consortium is marginally outdone in many areas of technology by its neighboring portal allies of Serethia and Athev Domod; Serethia has superior communications and spacecraft, and Athev Domod has superior weaponry. Terra Consortium makes up for this by being well-rounded in aspects of all technological areas.   Beyond the metropolitan expanse of Engaelsphyzos, the capital city of Terra Consortium that now engulfs the conjuration portal to Conclave, most cities possess second-rate technology compared to many of their political allies. Most cities utilize canals or tram systems with luxuries such as thaetrium-powered personal cars being only somewhat common. Rural zones often only have domesticated animals, rowboats, and sailboats for transportation, while being otherwise completely without thaetrium.

Religion

All religious institutions and public worship are banned. However, old folktales with roots in the ancient human religions still persist in art, literature, etc.

Foreign Relations

Via the conjuration portal in Engaelsphyzos that leads to Conclave, regular contact is made with the Aaşgen nation of Serethia on Daşarath. A magistrate from Terra Consortium works on the Concordant Assembly to ensure Terra Consortium's representation in Conclave as an independent city-state. A portal in Emnios leads to the Sethodj nation of Athev Domod on Dathael, and their assistance is regularly employed in Emnios and nearby cities. Relations with the Eklautu Federation on Laestares are mostly relegated to trade, despite their differences in cultural standards, though the occasional political incident between them arises; high status Eklautu heretics fleeing religious persecution are sometimes granted asylum by Terra Consortium, causing international/interplanetary legal issues with the Eklautu Federation. Terra Consortium is not on good terms with the Neo Tsov Imperium, and currently occupies the former Imperium city of Jyemasav as of 3577 IC. Occasional flairs of rebellion within the city and constant patrol of the border further north makes for constant tension between these nations.

Agriculture & Industry

Engaelsphyzos is the most metropolitan and technologically advanced city in Terra Consortium, possessing thaetrium energy sources for everyday use; hover-cars, airships, automated traffic management and factory lines, and sophisticated medical equipment are common sights in Engaelsphyzos. Emnios has a military weapons-testing and manufacturing site where most artillery and thunder-arms are produced. Forestry still abounds with lumber being in demand by the Serethian market. Agricultural grains are common all across Ephon. Domestication of brush-oxen, and a type of equine known as the xyhippas, allows for meat and transportation.

Trade & Transport

A monorail system links various industrial production sites across major cities. Airships are common for moving goods, since many roads across Ephon remain in disrepair or are simply unpaved. Rowboats or wagons drawn by brush-oxen and xyhippas are utilized in more landlocked rural areas, while tankers and sailboats form the backbone of trade along the eastern coast, from Cydanmeus to Kjorieg. A monorail also connects the east coast of Corveu to the west coast of Talamur, running from Cydanmeus to Lorr, Qista, Aeveu, Hes, Tevra, Trekkotor, Sairun, and finally to Zilarajj.

Education

Humans of Terra Consortium are enrolled in some form of education as early as age 3-4. The state funds schooling, complete with food, dormitories, and basic health care, in Basic Pedagogy and Advanced Pedagogy. Basic Pedagogy is often completed by 16-17, when children are legally considered adults (even though they are still mostly treated as children). Advanced Pedagogy is only free for 'adept' students, and is often completed by age 20-25. Those who fail to become adept are often confined to the lower class, and usually never escape their predicament.   Basic Pedagogy teaches rudimentary knowledge in many given subjects, such as science, mathematics, history, art and crafts, literature, and physical health. Exceptional students who graduate Basic Pedagogy are granted free access to Advanced Pedagogy, where more in-depth and specific subjects are taught, allowing more career choices. Undergoing military service grants the benefit of a 50% discount on entering Advanced Pedagogy.

A unicameral legislative assembly that is voted in by the people, often based on popularity between political parties. The president does have a limited ability to veto certain decisions, usually according to the Apsiras Referendum.
Judicial Body
Terra Consortium practices judicial independence, making the official courts separated from state powers, despite the laws themselves being made by the legislative assembly. It is popularly believed that this protects individual rights and elective integrity, regardless of state interests. The courts employ experienced artificers known as Overseers to track and survey criminal suspects.
