Warforged (ˈwɔːfɔːdʒd)

One of the more notable inventions of the Fourth Herivikan war of expansion were the Warforged. With most of their men sent to the front, the Herivikan Empire was struggling to keep its economy afloat. In order to protect their people and maintain their industrial output, the Herivikan rulers decided to create a new type of worker: the Warforged. These living constructs were made of wood and metal. Though some Warforged have been documented as being created with other organic materials. They were designed to be highly resistant to damage and able to withstand harsh environments, making them ideal for performing skilled labor in challenging conditions.   As the Warforged were put to work, they proved to be efficient and reliable. Their strength and durability allowed them to perform tasks that would be difficult or impossible for humans, and they were able to work tirelessly for days on end without rest. Their lack of emotions and social skills made them unperturbed by the harsh conditions of the factory floor, and they were highly valued for their skill and endurance. However, their lack of emotions also made them unpopular with their human counterparts, who sometimes saw them as cold and unfeeling.   Despite their initial successes, the Warforged were eventually brought down by The Collapse. With the loss of magic, its vital energy source, the Warforged were unable to function and returned to a primitive, even feral state. They became unpredictable, were unable to perform any task beyond their primary objective, and were prone to aggressive outbursts. Any surviving Warforged were decommissioned, and after twenty years they went fully extinct.
The return of the Warforged was marked by the creation of Progenitor Moss 119 years after the return of magic. Moss was constructed from a magical anvil by the great hero Dagon of Forgebrand. Fifty years after Moss' creation, wizards were able to study the data gathered on Moss and create a personality core, a magical plate that granted Warforged their unique personalities and the ability to learn and grow. Today, the legacy of Progenitor Moss lives on as the Warforged continue to thrive and play a vital role in the society of Careus.
