Narzanthé's people definitely aren't submissive enough to just lie back and take whatever is given to them, but are willing to on occasion, when it suits their purposes. Hence choosing the (feminine) form meaning to lie with. Despite historical usage, the term carries an implication of being equals, which clearly isn't true, but they're willing to let their partners believe it, as long as they're getting what they want out of the interaction.
