Firefly Cellar
The Firefly Cellar is a small archive outside of Candlekeep's Emerald Doors. It is located beneath the House of Rest. The archive is entirely below ground, containing a collection of old manuscripts that focus primarily on travelogues and regional customs. Until Senior Scribe Varnyr initiated a restoration effort seven years ago, its books had been largely neglected over the past few centuries.
The Cellar has three floors. The upper two contain the book collection. Despite its age and neglect, the cellar is well kept, with smooth stone walls and worn wooden floorboards covered here and there with new rugs. The bottom floor contains a kitchen and living quarters. There are no windows in the Cellar, and the only light comes from bottles of fireflies set into the walls, alcoves, or fixtures hanging from the ceiling. The only entrance into the Cellar is a metallic orange hatch set into the ceiling at the top of the stairs that lead down into the top floor.
Seven Avowed currently work at the Firefly Cellar - Varnyr (a senior scribe), Crinkle (an Avowed janitor), and 5 Avowed assistants (Melanie, Harvey, Pearce, Alejandra, and Lebovic).
History
No one knows when the Firefly Cellar was built - it was only discovered at Candlekeep twenty years ago when the House of Rest was looking to expand and create no-light rooming for it's sun adverse clientele. Judging by the date of the materials kept in the Cellar, it has been "lost" to Candlkeep for hundreds of years.
