Captain Sierra Kidd
It's easy to forget sometimes that she isn't human. She still laughs and eats and drinks like the rest of us, but there are little tells. Her voice is far too beautiful, the colour of her eyes too fluid and bright, her mischievous grin far too shark-like to be human. Her anger is deadly as the ocean, but no one has ever seen her shed a tear, even for her father.
It's easy to remember when she enters the sea, however. When her legs disappear to be replaced by a tail built for speeding through the water with ease. When the mermaids flock to her and her voice can bring all but the most stoic of sailors to their knees, there's no mistaking that she is definitely, distinctly, not a human.
Physical Description
Because of all the time she spends swimming and fighting, Sierra is fairly physically fit. She has a small frame and chest, but her arms are strong and her legs even moreso.
In full water form, Sierra's hair is a shiny blue that blends in well with the water when she's swimming.
Her whip-like tail extends to nearly three times her height in human form, with a horizontal tail fin that's as wide as her arm-span.
Scales that range in colour from deep blue to light green cover the entirety of her tail and grow in long patches along her arms, neck, and back.
Her lungs remain functional in this form, but are superseded by the gills that form along the lower portion of her ribcage. They appear as three long splits in her skin on each side.
Sierra can shift between human form and water form by force if necessary, but requires a lot of energy and effort.
She can also use siren magic by singing, but she does not have full control over it yet due to being young. She can charm men by default, but can't avoid doing so without outside aide. With practice, she'll be able to control what type of person her magic will affect at a given time. She does have some ability to call up rough weather with her magic, but it's still weak and unpredictable at best.
Mental characteristics
Sierra wasn't born in the traditional sense so much as she just sort of appeared on her father's ship one day, small, pink, and crying. Most folks can agree that a pirate ship is no place to keep a newborn and so, being entirely unable to even care for a baby, William Kidd decided to leave the child in the care of his old friend, Garfield Jackshand.
Growing up on Crimson Bay made the perfect recipe for Sierra to become a little mischief maker. She ran around after Luce all day, climbing trees and generally causing some sort of ruckus in town. Garfield was content to let them live out their childhoods freely and really only intervened if it involved one of them getting seriously hurt.
She wasn't necessarily raised as a girl; Garfield tended to use feminine pronouns for her but he treated her the same way he treated Luce. Regardless, when the time came that she could choose what to be, she decided that she wanted to become a lady. She could never really answer why outside of a vague desire to be pretty "like the ladies who live in the big house in town". There was never a doubt in her mind that it was the right decision for her.
When she was 13 and Luce was 16, Luce was brought onto William Kidd's ship as a deck hand. Sierra, not one to be left behind, stowed away in a crate of fruits being brought onto the ship. Everyone knew she was the captain's daughter the instant she was discovered; how could they not with that flaming red hair that was so like William's? Sierra proved her stubbornness when she insisted to be allowed to join the crew with Luce, and got what she wanted when one of the older deckhands, Turner, promised to take responsibility for training her. Thus began Sierra Kidd's career as a pirate.
Unsure and too busy to figure it out
Sierra has two golden rules that she lives by:
- Your crew is your family
- Loyalty is paid with loyalty
Sierra despises traitors and bullies.
Do not hurt family, especially her family.
Personality Characteristics
Driven by the need to exact revenge on the man who betrayed her father.
Social
Sierra can be rather extroverted, but her understanding of people is limited. Her headstrong and impulsive nature can often lead her to miss the subtler clues that something may be amiss with those around her. She also finds it difficult to truly empathize with people experiencing sorrow, particularly over lost loved ones, which can lead to her feeling alienated from those around her.

Sierra and Luce grew up together, raised as siblings by Garfield. They were nearly inseparable, even when Sierra snuck aboard her father's ship.
