Monster Hunters General

"Monster Hunters exist to kill monsters, it matters not who posted the bounty, all that matters is that the coin is right" -Feralt of Nivia
Orders of monster hunters have existed since the 2nd Age, when beasts and fiends of all kinds could be found throughout Calradia. The orders focus on specific types of monsters, training their agents specifically for the tasks at hand. It is thanks the the monster hunting orders that the world is as devoid of monstrous creatures today as it is, but they have regained a new level of prominence since the dawn of the 4th Age. Monster hunter orders were underprepared for what followed the waning of the empire, and even their own agents have begun to go missing on their hunts. Because of this, the orders began recruiting feverishly, and many skilled warriors have flocked to them in hopes of gaining great wealth and fame.   The life of a monster hunter is frought with danger, but also great rewards. For those skilled and dedicated enough to survive their encounters with the beasts of the mortal realms, they are given large bounties upon their return and are revered by townsfolk and authorities everywhere. Monster hunters will wear a metal insignia on their upper-left chest to denote the order from which they hail, and wear it with pride wearever they go. It is also not surprising that monster hunter orders encourage a significant degree of religious faith in their ranks. It is difficult in the best of times to convince someone to hold their ground against a monster, but to hold the line against a giant, or a kraken, requires a degree of religious confidence beyond the average person. Many monster hunters see themselves as holy instruments, destroying monsters in the name of the god of order.   Monster hunters will be hired by anyone from a king to a peasant leader, and could find themselves working in any part of the continent. However, all orders have a headquarters where they gather, train, and rest. They do not receive resources from governments, and are actually a fully international organization. A cut of every bounty is kep by the order to maintain their facilities and other resources, but otherwise they are self-sufficient. Many of the Fortress-monastery headquarters of the orders are almost self-sufficient mini-states, with their own food growth, weapons production, and medical services.
