Giant Spiders Species in Calradia | World Anvil

Giant Spiders

Attacks:   Web Shot: Range atk though unclear max distance, at least 10ft. Shoots out a web at its target (these webs had what seemed like thorns in them), doing piercing dmg and sometimes poison as well Piercing is likely somewhere between 2-12 for dmg (though max may be higher, most we rolled was 11 against us) Make a DC 12 STR save if hit by a web to see if it grabs hold of you or not, if it does you are restrained. an ally can chop the webbing to help release you from its grasp   Spider Eat: Doesn't have to be used after you are webbed, just whenever Spider is 5ft from you take piercing dmg then roll CON to see if you take full or half poison. 15 CON will succeed, not sure of actual DC though. If poison reduces you to exactly 0HP then you are stable but remain poisoned and paralyzed for 1 hour even if woken   Spider Swarms: Mini spider swarm is released, appears each Large Spider gets 1 Swarm to command. See: Spider swarms

Basic Information

Anatomy

A Giant spider is similar to it's smaller brethren but... bigger! Their carapace is stronger though, reminding anyone trying to pierce it of a crab's shell, or other soft-ish but hard shell. They are able to use the hooks on the end of their legs to climb with ease, and have a surprisingly long jumping length. They have eight red eyes.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Giant Spiders will attempt to ensnare creatures in webs, for consumption later. Be warned though, the webs can be very flammable.

Behaviour

Giant spiders are usually ambush predators, and retain some rudimentary intelligence in this area. They are known to make simple construction out of foliage to hide themselves and their traps. In addition, they weave long web-homes, that also act as early warning systems. Any creature or being that touches one of their webs, will immediately alert any spider on the web to their location. They are also keenly aware of their surroundings, and frequently camouflage themselves to the foliage and even weave with the wind.    Giant Spiders have a simple language of chittering which, to any listener sounds like nothing, but some scholars have managed to decipher simple meanings (or at least those that weren't eaten).
