Ents

Ents, also known as tree-folk, are a race of sentient and sapient creatures that take the shape of large trees. They were created by the Fey Lady Virentia, Lady of Flora, to help her tend to her creations and gardens across the mortal plane. However, most Ents in Calradia were wiped out during the Early First Age, as the Daemon Prince and his subjects saw them as a threat to their power. Since the downfall of the Daemons, Ents have made a slow recovery, but are still exceptionally rare in Calradia. Many village elders may tell stories to children about scary tree-folk in the woods in order to scare them away from playing in the deep dark parts of forests.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ents can take the shape of many different kinds of trees, and so Ents or only limited in shape by the literal number of tree species. however, Ents still maintain the basic humanoid features of the other races (i.e. a head, arms, legs, etc. It's legs live as roots in the ground until they awaken and rise up into great tangly legs.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is unknown how Ents reproduce.

Growth Rate & Stages

Ents have no known maximum age, and can continue to exist as long as their nutrient needs are met. In order to do this, Ents often lay down roots and go to "sleep", becoming almost indifferentiable from a normal tree. Ents will sleep for decades before re-awakening to walk the mortal plane again.

Ecology and Habitats

Ents can exist anywhere where trees grow, though are even less common in deserts than anywhere else.

Behaviour

Ents are naturally reclusive, and prefer to spend most of their time tending to plants and gardens in solitude (though their "gardens" vary heavily from those known by the civilized races).

Social Structure

Ents are extremely solitary, but will gather with other Ents occasionally (every few hundred years) to discuss issues of mutual concern. These organizations are known as "moots", and are generally only held for a specific purpose, for example the burning of a local forest. In addition, Ents will occasionally be visited by their creator Virentia, and it is rumored that they put together a lavish meal for the visit of their Lady.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Ents are not very perceptive, and their eyesight is extremely poor. However, they have a borderline supernatural sense of touch. The few Ents that have been studied have been able to tap into the senses of forests and nearby Fauna.

Ents speak unanimously and solely Sylvan.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ents generally do not interact with the other races, and so have no conflict but also no active friendship. However, trespassing on the garden of an Ent is enough to make an Ent very hostile very quickly, regardless of your origin or species.
