Imagine, if you will, two robots playing chequerboard.

Clearly they will have no need of a physical chequerboard or physical pieces, they will have their own internal representations of the game state. By extension, they are not limited to a three-dimensional game space. So now imagine, if you can, two robots playing a four-dimensional game of chequerboard.

Sooner or later each will perfect their gameplay such that neither can win and, in effect, they have solved the four-dimensional variant. They will have to move up to ever higher dimensions in order to find a space in which one of them could force a winning position. This they could do ad infinitum but, eventually, they will solve the game for any arbitrary n-dimensional space...
