Overview
Our description of Calmarendi splits into four main parts: the people who appear in our narratives, the places where things happen, the chronology of events and, then, everything else. This Encycolpaedia Calmarendia, is the “everything else” part.
Contents
The Encyclopaedia has been broken down into categories as follows:
- Living World - Organisms that exhibit continuous metabolic activity and the capacity for growth, development, reproduction, adaptation to the environment, and response to stimuli. And robots.
- Government and Democracy - A description of the constitutional arrangements of the Western Provinces.
- Co-operative Organizations - Calmarendians coming together with common purpose.
- Society and Way of Life - Traditions, etiquette, morality, art, sport, beliefs and superstitions; everything that shapes the day-to-day lives and interactions of the people of Calmarendi.
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - Advancements in these fields may be thin on the ground but there is, still, plenty for us to look at here. And it would be unfair to say that nothing ever changes: it just happens rather slowly.
- Commerce and Trade - In a world that values mutual co-operation above all else, words like commerce and trade are somewhat alien concepts. Think of subjects listed under this heading, therefore, more as describing the way in which Calmarendians organize the means of production, distribution and exchange.
- Miscellany - All those pesky items that defy all attempts at classification.
