The Arkhenith Empire

"Powerful was the Arkhenith Empire. It's civilization dominated several continents and it's people were wanting of nothing. Culturally and scientifically they were at the height of their development, having reigned peacefully for centuries. Their leaders were powerful mages the likes the world has not seen since. With ambitions as great as their power.

The Arkhenith were in need of an energy supply to power their metropolises, as the demands of their comfortable population was ever rising. The citizens of their megacities were used to enchanted means of transport, flying discs, magical elevators, magical aides, self-opening doors and cleaning devices.

Their wizards were powerful but the common people could not perform magical tasks by themselves. Furthermore even the mightiest mages could not conjure raw, stable energy or find a way to funnel elemental energy directly into their energy grid. So what began as a scientific essay of an esoteric school of thought, was built upon by experimenting and expanding the boundaries of the possible: Veil magic

Over decades the brightest minds of the Empire labored and experimented and finally developed a means to extract energy from the veil and funnel it through their magical energy sites towards their metropolises. But the calamity was not long in waiting....

It must have happened at one site at a time that the veil was stretched so thin as to be easily breached by denizens of the Abyss. Can you imagine the horror of the scholars present at the sites as they began to see the error of their actions? Oh, how fiercely the wizards must have fought. I cannot fathom the power that must have been unleashed by their most expert spellcasters.

In the end, as we all know, it was to no avail. The portals to the Abyss were opened. The wizards at the front were defeated and the cities almost all but helpless at the mercy of the unabating stream of demons. But mercy was not shown....
