Headmaster Straphiar Izahl

You enter the great library through two giant wooden doors. Upon entering, the air instantly cools down from the balmy temperatures of the summer day outside of these halls. It is not unpleasant though. The air is dry and filled with scents of old leather and it has a slight acidy tang to it. You see all kinds of people of all races rushing through the entrance hall, balancing heaps of books and carrying scrolls under their arms. Some are in soft conversation, others seem lost in thought. Upon approaching the only desk in this large room a young man looks up from the parchment he is writing on. He sets his quill down next to the parchment, a smile brightening his young face, and he says:   “Welcome travellers to the great library. My name is Herten. How may I assist you? You seem to have travelled far. Oh, we seldom have such worldly visitors. Have you come to look at the newest edition of “Great Serpents of the North”? Or our treatises on “Grand cryomancy”? Our collection of historical texts is unparalleled, of course. We just got our hands on one of a handful remaining editions of Hemart Penhallon’s “The fall of the Sauxsixian empire”. A volume in pristine condition. Can you believe it? … I am sorry. Please excuse my blubbering. Have you come to talk to headmaster Izahl? Please don’t tell him about my flustered reception. He so despises it.”   Nothing could be farther from the truth. Headmaster Straphiar Izahl is above else a benevolent man, who would never try to discourage showing enthusiasm. One could get the impression though that he does not often indulge in frivolity. He is a slender man in his late sixties and as far as scholarly appearances go, he plays the part. Being of average height he sports a long white beard and his mouth is not want to smile often. His bushy white brows overshadow his deep set eyes. His hair is short and dense and well groomed, his sky-blue robe immaculately clean and sitting well on his frame. Headmaster Izahl is almost always seen with his hands clasped behind his back, shoulders straight, and he never speaks impulsively but chooses his words wisely and with caution.
  • As the kind and attentive man that he is he loves the scholars under his wing as much as he loves the books they keep. And who ever saw his blue eyes light up with amusement will never mistake headmaster Straphiar Izahl for an austere man again.
