Gancean
The Gancean are among the least modified of the Hollow of Calengwag in their compliance to the human gene-code in their possession of few traits which extend past the more common characteristics of mankind. While their ancestry stems largely from the region of the modern Dragon Nations, hair ranges from black to brown to red with the last being dominant genetically, blonde hair is rare and generally a rarity. Hazel eyes are also somewhat uncommon while shades of green and blue are considered uneventful. Their skin similarly runs the gambit between pale and a rich teak, which seems to have less to do with descent than with the personal exposure of a given subject. The only truly unique traits among the Gancean are their tendency towards multiple livebirths with twin and triplet births accounting for approximately ten percent of all births among their people and the relative frequency of the so-called ‘Voidbanes’ which are somewhat common among their people.
They are among the more populous groups on Hollow, being principally found on Hiber’Cale, Anw’wn, Affara, Yominysa and Thule. Their culture most exemplifies the obsession with tradition and honour that plague all of the Hollowborn, with amusing notions of chivalry and feudal structures found among all of their kingdoms. What marks them apart is a special fixation on renown and death, all Hollowborn have a certain propensity towards venerating their dead ancestors and avenging lost kin but the Gancean are especially fond of underground necropoleis and the preservation of the dead. This is married with a strong belief of kin alliances and notions of mutual obligations between master and servant, it is considered that nothing is so valuable as to command the loyalty of one’s oathsworn. This does present a strong cultural conflict traditionally as the contention between avenging kin and obeying one’s liege has led to no small number of rebellions, civil wars and strife between nations.
Ganceans are the most numerous of the people's of Hollow among the Legions, with a sizable portion of each Guild being composed of Ganceans. The most notable Gancean is the Lady Morygen.
