Caldara (World)
Between the southern tip of the blustering Shipwreck Coast to the edge of the hot Northern Wastes lies the Kingdom of Caldara, a land rich in natural resources and deep in history.
Geography
The Shipwreck Coast is home to tall cliffs and rough seas. Rolling hills of fertile soil make for prime farming in the area. Further north, the land plateaus into the Gredian Basin, where settlements are sparse due to seasonal flooding. Sitting atop a rocky hill protected from the floodwaters, Watchtower is the largest town in the basin.
The south-west coast is home to fishing villages.
The Blue Lake is a large lake that is fed by the Timbre River from the Alesund Mountains, the tail end of a large range of mountains that merge into the Wild Mountains. The mineral-rich waters give the lake a vibrant blue color that is not seen anywhere else in the land.
West of the Blue Lake is the Ketrela Peninsula, a grassy land, home to many creatures specific to the region. The peninsula is the main land mass that creates the Bay of Volkura to the south, and the large Bay of Plenty to the north.
The north-east is home to the Wild Mountains and, among other mine systems, the Dwarven mines of Then Dohral.
North of Caldara's furthest outposts lie the Northern Wastes; a land of hot sands and strong winds. Tribes of Dwarves live in the area, though little contact has been made with them in the past century.
Travel far enough east along the Southern Coast and one would find themselves at the Elvenglade, home of the Elves.
Although there are no cultural homelands as there are for Dwaves and Elves, Gnomes and Halflings are common throughout the land, their ancestors long having left their homelands to settle in Caldara.
Natural Resources
Wood
Most wood for the land is grown and logged locally, though the most sought wood, Mountain Pine, is collected from the forests around Logger's Rest, on the Eastern perimeters of the Kingdom. Transported downstream to the Blue Lake where it is processed before being send down to Riversend From the South-Eastern forests of Elvenglade, a treaty signed long ago allows the King to have one tree logged per decade from the forests of the Elvenglade, however the King has never sought to impose the conditions of this treaty on the elves.Metals and Stone
A range of ores are mined in the mountain ranges to the North-East where, one refined are sent to Dalmore, where they are then distributed around the nation as demand requires. Dwarves built the networks of tunnels long ago, but during the Second Age abandoned them after the humans turned against them. Ancient Dwarven machines are still found beneath the tunnels. Some are recovered and sent to Yarrin for study and reverse-engineering.Farming
As with most areas, farmed goods are locally grown. The Southern villages and towns are paid by the Crown to plant and deliver surplus dry goods to the Captial. They store for future droughts, and to provide provisions to trade ships from other nations.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
