The Livonian Corps

The First to Act, the Last to Stand Down

The Livonian Corps is the personal security detail of King Romanov I and acts as the primary guards of the city of Livon as a whole. They guard not only the king, but senators from the People's Hall, key locations like the Imperial Library and much more. They are easily recognisable by their heavy armour and tall halberds. They are also often accompanied by wizards or bards clad in apricot robes who support them with evocation magic, either through healing or destruction. They are the first and last line of defense of the city, and are well known for defending it against the hill giant attack some six decades ago.

Composition

Manpower

At all times, even at night, there are at least 1,000 corps members active and on patrol or guard duty in the city of Livon. Overall however, the corps numbers closer to 3,000 including support units and spell-casters. During times of siege or war this can be expanded to around 8,000 by calling in reserves and those still in training.

Equipment

The standard corps members are clad in heavy plate, which is shared and maintained by members at the citadel. Their iconic helmets cover their face completely, though still offering decent visibility. Their weapon of choice is the halberd, but they are also trained in the sword and crossbow, which they carry at their own discretion.   The bards and wizards who support them usually wear light robes and use spells such as mage armour or shield to defend themselves if they need to, though they prefer to stay in the back and provide their supportive spells from a distance.

Training

All sergeants, captains and wizards are trained either at the Grand Imperial College by a member of the corps who studied there. Beyond that, every leading officer is expected to study and memorise 'Counterspell' as a last resort against magical attacks.
