Freeman's Guild
The Freeman's Guild is an adventuring guild obsessed with exploration, charting of unknown regions, securing of dungeons and tombs, as well as defeating monsters that may plague a village or town. The guild is a relatively new organisation to grace the civilised places of the world. Firstly founded on Albion by the time the Empire fell, it has since expanded to all major ports across Calcaria, offering its services to anyone with coin. It does not have apprentices or mercenaries, rather it gives out contracts that are then paid upon return. It does however keep meticulous notes and receipts of all its work and employs a veritable army of sages and cartographers at its headquarters in Arrah.
Structure
The guild exists within every major human city, usually limited to one per kingdom. Within each resides a Guildmaster, who in turn answer to the Grandmaster in Arrah. These then pay for the various scribes and cartographers that mark down new discoveries, all which is flown to its headquarters via carrier pigeon. They also make note of each and every person they employ, and are often asked by local townwatches about various outsiders. Beyond that, each location typically employs a barkeep to work in an in-house tavern, both to let their contractors rest and to attract newcomers.
Public Agenda
The Freeman's Guild is the middleman between concerned citizens and brave adventurers. It hands out contracts or information - such as maps - in return for 25% of the reward either found or paid by the contract issuer. If its fair share is withheld, it puts out wanted posters both for the guards and its own members to hunt those who have not paid up, and is sure to alert all nearby headquarters in neighbouring cities. Though they do not generally act as sellswords, the guild is often confronted with the subject of monster hunting. It both pays well, and many dusty dungeons and tombs often come with nasty surprises. It may not be the first thing on its agenda, but the guild is well versed in slaying all manner of beasts.
