Marganation
As it is organized Marganation is probably the most affluent and stable of the three nations. It has laws that are clear and fair, taxes that do not unduly burden its citizens and an unobtrusive law enforcement organization while it is defended by a professional army.
Marganation’s citizens enjoy many personal and religious freedoms. In addition, it has a sizable number of people that add to the cultural ethos of the nation. With its full coffers the nation is able to education its population, improve infrastructures while alleviating most impoverishments.
One odd fact is that many of its citizens worship the “Great Maker” who they credit with creating all aspects of reality and then retired from any further involvement in that creation. You are likely to hear the term “Great Maker!” whenever something doesn’t work out as planned or when the individual is otherwise annoyed. Just remember this “Great Maker” doesn’t care about anything in his retirement.
Demography and Population
In addition to its human population almost all of Calandyrion’s other races live within the borders of Marganation choosing to avoid the lawlessness of Rhapsium and the perceived darkness of Akkalion. Given its populations of Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings and Humans, living in 8 towns spread across the nation, Marganation probably hosts a population over 2,000,0000 souls.
Territories
Marganation encompasses all of Calandyrion east of the Central Mountains and west of the Great Western Ocean except for a small area north of the town, Pangation. Within its borders Marganation lie the largest river on the continent named for the city at the point it flows into the Great Western Ocean south of Calandyrion. In addition, the largest forest, the Kybian, lies in the north, the Plains of the Sivil and the mountains of the Eastern Wall.
Military
Marganation possesses a professional army permanently stationed in Caesion while the individual towns maintain militias for self-defense. The Professional Army numbers 100,000 and is used to train the militias in the different towns. Therefore, President Ameny sends a company of men to each town to aid in train the individual towns to defend themselves. This is done twice a year. These training sessions occur during the first week of Summer and the last week of Autumn.
Foreign Relations
Marganation has a neutral political stance with its neighbors Akkalion and Rhapsium. The former because of the natural barrier provided by the Central Mountains and the latter due to the muscular army Marganation maintains.
Education
All citizens of Marganation are entitled to an education to the level of being able to read, write and do math at a lever necessary to participate in government and trade or work. While Marganation does not have a state language all citizens are taught the common tongue.
Infrastructure
Marganation is a nation in flux. Its capital, Caesion, maintains aqueducts to transport fresh water into and sewers to remove solid waste from the city. In addition, the government is working to extend the Caesion Way, a paved roadway from Caesion to Tocia, so that all towns will have access to a more stable system of roads to help move trade goods overland as well as by barge on the Caesion River.
Cosmological Views
In the beginning there was only The Infinite Void and the void was nothing. However, something happened, and the Great Maker came to be and since no living thing has ever been known to interact with the that entity how it came to be is a puzzle to all intelligent lifeforms. Unaware that it was alone Great Maker slipped between wakefulness and sleep. Eons later it began to dream things and those things; became the Magical and Astral energies which it sent swirling though the Void. After that the Great Maker sensing in those energies pockets of differing densities that could be molded into other things and created the Four Elements. Air became a mechanism for movement. Fire produced heat and light, Earth became objects and Water which was Earth in a liquid form.
As the Great Maker observed these aspects swirl within the void it was noted that other things, objects, began to form into Universes each of the Universes had more or less of the aspects that had been brought into existence by the Great Maker, Within the Universes galaxies formed. In the galaxies solar systems coalesced into Suns for light and planets of which some had moons. Those Suns appeared like twinkles in the vacuum of the void for there must always be void before all things.
Democracy, an experiment in governance
Marganation uses coins as their currency in the following denominations: the copper Pence, the silver Shilling and the gold Dime. There is a network of banking institutions for converting precious metal bars and gemstones into coins and there are jewelers who will purchase gemstones for use in making jewelry.
Marganation exports many items beyond agricultural and livestock to Akkalion and Rhapsium. It is renowned for its specialty alcoholic beverages; ales, beers, brandies, liquors, and wines, artistic creations, cloths and textiles, and on occasion some new invention of the Gnomes.
In addition to its Presidency there is a Council of Leaders made up of members of the Guild Masters, Heads of Religious Organizations and Political representatives from all villages with a population greater than 500 families. Those villages smaller than 500 families are encouraged to associate themselves with other larger villages to ensure they are represented at the national level. It is the councils that make the rules of the land which are then sent to the president for enactment or vetoed. If a veto happens the proposal is sent back to the councils with a rationale from the president for why it was vetoed. At that point, the council have to option to make modifications to the rule or refer it to the Judicial System to determine whether the rule fits with the Constitution of Marganation.
Marganation’s judicial system consists of Personal Damages courts, Financial Damages courts and the overarching Judicial Oversight court. The Personal Damages court oversees those cases wherein one individual causes injury to another’s body or personal wealth. The Financial Damages court oversees conflicts having to do with the settlement of debt issues between either individuals or between organizations. Finally, the Judicial Oversight court oversees disagreements arising from decisions made in either the Personal Damages or Financial Damages courts. The Judicial Oversight court also presides over the resolution of conflicts between the Council of Leaders and the Presidency.
