Chapter 4 Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jig

General Summary

The next morning the patrol met up with Bemed Woldgrip and took to the road hoping to get the dwarf to Caesion as quickly as possible. On the third day of their trek the group came upon the Abbey at Leuciumorum which holds an abandoned White Tower and a crumbling Dark Tower. While gazing at the towers, Merric spotted what appeared to be a radiant lion walking toward the White Tower and disappear inside. Upon closer inspection the patrol found no visible entrance to the tower.

After a good night’s rest the patrol moved on to Nicium where, just outside of town, they encountered Fülgur, a Dragonborn cleric of the Goddess Mishakal, and a gnome known as Dolly, who appeared to have lost her memory. After spending the night at the (Inn Named) the two groups came together with the patrol agreeing to allow Fülgur and Dolly to accompany them to Caesion.

From there until they reach Caesion some day’s later the company slept on the road or at Inns at Diolius and Tocia. As the patrol entered the Main Gates of Caesion, a woman levitated into the air and speaking in a booming Draconic voice the following “The Mother sends a son. Can the Father be far behind?” At which point the woman fell gently back to the ground apparently unconscious. As Fülgur translated for the group the woman managed to rise and run away without being noticed. Therefore, the group moved on to reporting in to the Office in Charge of Patrols and Snodgrain in particular. After giving their report Snodgrain informed the group that he would add Fülgur and Dolly’s names to their patrol and after agreeing to updated terms of employment and sent them on R&R for seven days.

When they got to their new digs in the barracks the gang read through the small print in their employment agreement and found that that President Penry had implemented a raise in their compensation so that from now on the would receive 2gp per day while they are on patrol. In addition, whenever they are in the city and not on patrol, they will be provided with a private room large enough for six people and meals from the mess hall in the Guard Barracks. The patrol will also be given a one-week period of R&R after each assignment at which point, the patrol is to report back to Snodgrain’s office for their next assignment. However, they will have to agree to the following provision: all large gems, adamantine equipment, scrolls or other objects that might be magical in nature be submitted to Snodgrain for appraisal. Once that appraisal no is completed all objects will be returned to them with the exception of certain unnamed items for which they will be reimbursed by the coffers of President Penry. Apparently, the powers that be are looking for something special but have idea what it is or what it looks like.

On the evening of the last day of their R&R Ren was visited by Judicial Guards and asked to accompany them to his uncle’s, Magistrate Hornan Thodak, manor house. While walking with the guards Ren was informed that his uncle had been murdered. Indications were that the Captain Pierce of the Night Guard was there perpetrator. Upon his arrival he found Aliaga despairing her father’s death. Through her sobs he understood that Aliaga wanted his help finding the person responsible. While comforting Aliaga, Ren agreed to help to the best of his abilities given his responsibilities with the Force Patrol.

Upon leaving his uncle’s home Ren went to the Magisterial Offices and got an overview of the evening’s events. Ren was able to determine that. Capt. Peirce arrived promptly at the appointed time but Magistrate Thodak was running a little behind schedule. Having been friends the two started a conversation about Uncle Hornan’s daughter but something was off and Uncle Hornan rang the panic bell in his office alerting the guards that he was in danger. At that point, Captain Pierce killed Uncle Hornan and ran from the office seeing the guards arriving yelled out “He’s in my office”. Captain Pierce quickly left the scene before he could be questioned. When the guards found Magistrate Thodak’s body in his office they were confused and sent for their own supervisor who quickly began a search for Captain Pierce who could not be found.

While returning to the barracks Ren asked his guards to find an Investigator to help him follow-up on the case as he was scheduled to report for patrol duty at Sunrise. Ren gave the guard enough coin to pay the Investigator for a week’s work and took his leave of the guard and took to his cot for a couple hours sleep before reporting in to Snodgrain.

The next morning, when the party reports back to Snodgrain they are informed that while they were away a number of merchants and travelers have reported that after leaving Tocia and heading toward Caesion they were attacked by a pack of bipedal creatures that looked like hyenas. Therefore, the Patrol is being sent out to deal with the situation, put an end to the attacks and report back to Caesion.

The patrol headed out at daybreak to a beautiful day with no breeze but the air is brisk. As the Force Patrol reaches the main gates of the city they come upon a disheveled and frightened merchant talking to the guards. Bits and pieces of the conversation drift into the ears of the party about the merchant being attacked and his wagon full of goods lost. It was only by quickly leaping off the wagon and running for his life did the merchant escape with his life. If the party asks the merchant will tell them that the attack occurred two day ago on the Caesion Way south of Tocia.

Given the latest information provided by the merchant it took the patrol about a week to locate the Gnoll’s lair and dispatched the Pack Lord and his minions. Dolly led the fight with her magical interventions, which the group found astonishing given her diminutive size and lack of memory. The Fang of Yeenoghu was not found but the patrol returned to Caesion to file their report.
