Chapter 2 Patrol's First Outing
General Summary
The first assignment given to the Patrol Force was a walkabout from Caesion to Tocia and onward through Diolius, Emona, Iugunum and back to Caesion.
Early in the route things seemed peaceful and the party stopped in Tocia for the night. However, on the next day’s travel a problem arose. As the patrol was coming to the outskirts of farming village of Diolius they encountered some very distressed people. As it turned out a child had disappeared, unnoticed at first, the day before and did not return home that evening, Seeing the patrol the villagers asked for help in locating the child. While investigating the party came upon a trampled place in the grassland that was covered in blood. Further investigation revealed a single bloody child’s toe. The patrol wanting to know who or what had caused this followed a trail left by a single individual. After half a day tracking, they came upon a single Gnoll and engaged it in bloody battle resulting in them killing creature.
Upon killing the Gnoll, the patrol met a Druid named Aurora who appeared to be tracking the same beast. Aurora informed them that everyone thought all Gnolls were extinct and that they should inform President Penry of the discovery which they agreed to do. The members agreed that upon completion of their patrol route they would do just that.
So, the party continued onward toward Emona but along the way they observed lightning bolts shooting up into the skies. The locals of Emona hinted that they were work of a crazy wizard named Hagnon. Not thinking much about it the party went on to Iugunum a small hamlet of fisherman when they got there, they were allowed to rest in an abandoned shanty that used to be owned by a now deceased fisherman who had no family.
Finally, the patrol decided to take the coastal route home. With no real road or trail to follow they used the shoreline and whatever animal trails they could find to travel south. On the evening of the second day’s travel the once again witnessed strange lightning shooting into the air and decided to see if they could find out where it was coming from and who or what was causing. At the base of the Eastern Wall mountains the party came upon an old man sitting on a log before a cooking fire. The old man offered them some of his cooked food and allowed them to sleep in his camp for the night. When they woke the next morning, the old man was gone and they never got his name.
A few days later they returned to Caesion and reported into the bureaucrat in charge of patrols. They found that he referred to himself as Nabnivar Snodgrain Chief Force Patrol Records Officer, a gnome with what they discerned was a perfect memory for details which the party provided. They gave a complete report of where they had been, who they had met and the information that Aurora had asked them to report to President Penry. The also described their interactions with an old man whom they believed to be Hagnon although he had not provided them with a name. After offering their report and getting paid the patrol was given a week of rest and relaxation.
