The Knife Ridge is a narrow isthmus connecting the northern and southern parts of the continent of Kenerif, being slowly pulled apart by a newly forming ocean ridge. The very top of the ridge is around 2000 meters in elevation and can be as razor thin as 500 meters wide in some locations. Most of the ridge has somewhat gentle slopes, but at the thinnest areas, it is a sheer cliff. While the planet will eventually pull North and South Kenerif apart some day, for the time being the entire ridge is reinforced with concrete and steel. The Ridge used to be a densely populated city of several million people, and buildings and tunnels were cut through. Today, much fewer people live here.

The Ridge was formed around a hundred thousand years ago but the process that formed it took many millions more. The land connecting north and south Kenerif used to be a much larger mountain range, with mountains as high as 3000 meters or more. Then, the continent decided to start ripping itself apart perpendicular to the range. The result was quite a lot of earthquakes and volcanic activity. This might even be responsible for the area to the east that resulted in the Sunken Lands.

In the distant past, during the War of Purges, One of the Bevarian splinter factions attempted to blow Knife Ridge apart. This would have several effects. It would shift the climate to the southwest, and it would also completely cut off the sourthern portion of the Kenerif continent from the North as it would destoy the major road and railway connecting the two. The issue is that Knife Ridge was already quite well reinforced by this time. Bevaria then attempted to use a low-yield nuclear device, but they were stopped before they could drop that bomb. Had they succeeded in dropping a nuclear device, then the history of the Regalti Species would have changed forever.

The roads and railways were destroyed during the war, it took several years to rebuild. The Railway and one major road now runs through the inside of the Knife Ridge itself, and another major road runs along the East Side of the ridge.

The western area has a number of dry, warm beaches, even in the winter, making it a popular tourist destination for the people living in the East. The East has a considerably wetter climate, but it is a little cooler in the summer, making the east a popular tourist destination for the people living in the west.
