The Battle of Mulder

The Battle of Mulder was the first major battle of the Ardunan Civil War, fought from late January through early February. A risky strategic move for the nationalists, General Crowley led his forces to attack the city, hoping to provide a stable supply line through the Ardunan Hinterlands, which would allow him to march north and quickly end the war before the front lines consolidated. Though outnumbered and outgunned, the syndicalist forces managed to establish a strong defensive line in the outskirts of the city, baiting the nationalists into an encirclement and eventually routing them.
Though the battle was a very costly victory for the syndicalists, it served as a strong morale booster, and a rallying cry for the revolutionary cause, as it proved that the Red Guard militias were capable of holding their own against the better trained National Royal Army. It also significantly slowed down the initial nationalist advance, allowing syndicalist forces to become entrenched in their positions, and buying much needed time for the creation of a proper Revolutionary Army.
