Cassian Aurelian
Chancellor Cassian Aurelian (a.k.a. Cassian the Bold)
Cassian of the House of Aurelian was a general in the Meron Army, and the first Chancellor of the Republic. He was born in the town of Sansa, the son of a laborer. When he was only six years old, the Sabellan War broke out, leading him to be orphaned. After joining the Meron Army at 15, Cassian proved himself a skilled fighter at the Battle of the Seneca. There, he saved the life of patrician heir Lucan Aurelian, who adopted Cassian into his house. The two would remain close until Lucan's death at the Sacking of Magna.
Cassian was personal escort to King Ferano III when the monarch led the Rape of the Forgotten City. Allegedly, the human cost of this victory drove him to kill the king and march on Magna, deposing the royal family and instituting the Military Regency, in which a military tribunal ran the affairs of Meron until the republic could be established. After this, he was selected by the first 13 senators to become Chancellor of the Republic.
Chancellor Cassian served as the Meron head of state until his death at 57 years of age due to old war wounds.
