Baron

A Baron, or Baroness, is one usually the lowest rank of landed nobility. They are most often ranked above knights and landowners, but below dukes. Barons and Counts are often considered of similar rank.

Appointment

Most often, a Baron or Baroness is appointed the title upon the death of their predecessor, with the title most often being hereditary, passed down as per local succession laws.

Duties

In most cases, the job of a Baron is to oversee a parcel of land that makes up a part of a Duke's duchy. They often delegate to lower ranking officials such as Landed Knights, or Landowners.
