The War of the Five Realms was a battle between the five major powers in the Middle, a section of Caerwyn now called the Middle Empire.


The War of the Five Realms began with a skirmish between Llenia and Helavilla. Llenia raised an army, beginning the battle with the invasion of Helavilla from the south, quickly taking a number of small towns, before converging on Gravehold (then called Hela), the capital of Helavilla. The Death March of Virchost, a bloody and barbaric fight, took place in the marshes outside the city, with thousands dying in the oppressive heat of the summer months. The marshes have been known as Portach Marbh (The Bog of the Dead) ever since.   A few years later, the Province of Iariquinigar, led by King Alstier, formed an alliance with Feerine and Otural. All three expected to be the targets of aggression aggression from Llenia soon and the alliance was easily won. With their combined armies they won a decisive victory in the The Battle of Dragondrift. After gather his armies, Alstier made a decisive push to the city of Dragondrift, the capital of Llenia. Alstier led the battle with Kingmaker, the greatsword - cleaving a path through the cities defenses to claim the throne for Iariquinigar. Recognizing that the provinces would just fall back into war if not united under a common cause, Alstier worked to united the provinces under a single crown, through whatever means he deemed necessary - assassination, bribery and politicking included.   Alstier married the daughter of the king of Feerine, solidifying their alliance and the central regions of the Empire. Minor rebellions in Llenia were quelled and the nobility of Helavilla were granted back their lands in return for recognizing the crown of the now High King. The lords of Otural were promised great riches in exchange for the building of the Imperial Navy and the five nations were finally united.
