Geography

Na Dreapa Ceobhrán is a range of steep, forest-covered ridges that rise like stone fingers in southern Tarnith. Blanketed perpetually in drifting fog, the ridges form natural barriers between the inland glades and the ocean winds. Narrow, moss-slicked trails snake through sharp limestone outcroppings, while deep gorges and hollows hide ancient root systems and overgrown altars. The air is dense with moisture and sound travels strangely—often echoing or vanishing altogether.

Mythical and Magical Significance

The mists that haunt the ridges are thought to be living extensions of the Veil. Druids believe that spirits gather in these heights to whisper warnings or secrets to those who know how to listen. The ridges are sometimes used for the Rite of the Cradle Steps—an initiation for young druids seeking visions from the land’s oldest guardians. Some claim that the mists can disorient trespassers not accepted by the land itself.

Cultural Importance

The ridges are sacred to several wandering circles of the Druids of the Veil, who travel here during autumn to commune with ancestral spirits. Stories passed down through generations speak of stone-singing rituals, dreamfasting beneath Briarveil Hollow, and visions seen through mirrors of dew on lichen-covered stones. Those who disappear in the ridges are often believed to have been “taken into memory” by the Veil.

Strategic Role

Though not valued by traditional military powers, the Mist-Wreathed Ridges serve as natural defenses against incursion from the southern coasts. Their terrain is nearly impassable to outsiders, especially during the Spirit Shroud. Some druidic sentinels are stationed here to protect inner Tarnith from desecration, guided by whisper-owls and elemental signs.
