Moonglass

A side smooth as crystal and an edge sharp steel, it is said that Moonglass attained its bluish tint by repeatedly being bathed in the blood of the Kichian. Whether true or not, Moonglass possesses a cutting ability that no mortal weapon can match and a will to protect Ikkaril equal only to that of its first wielders.

Moonglass is a sentient weapon who has appeared and disappeared many a time over the course of Ikarril's history. It lives within the Shifting Vales where it stands unyielding against those who might want to trespass across the borders of the realm.

Description

Any description of Moonglass can only be called incomplete at best as the sword has forever resisted being studied closely. From a technical point of view, Moonglass is closest to a scimitar in shape than any other type of blade though its curve is only very slight. The blade is roughly 65 cm long and a pale blue. It has a visible tang made of a silvery material and a point that is somewhat wider than the rest of the blade. It has a few notable features. First, it does not have a fuller. Second and more significantly, it does not possess a false edge. As a matter of fact, Moonglass, unlike other scimitars, has a sharpened edge along half of the reverse of its blade. That design feature is now called a one-and-a-half edge and has been used by other weaponsmiths.

History

No mortal was ever brave enough to ask Ayanna where Moonglass comes from. It is believed that Ayanna went on her travel through the realms without a single piece of equipment but she came back with Moonglass at her side. Moonglass was handed to Lhoris Torlar. Upon the elven warrior's death, the family attempted to return the blade to Ayanna but Moonglass disappeared.

Over the course of the following Ages, Moonglass was often found by travellers of the Vales. The weapon would often appear to protect the innocents attempting a trip through the Vales. On a few occasions, it has allowed itself to be wielded by champions looking to protect Ikkaril. If one ever took it out of the Vales, Moonglass would always return to its post after the death of its chosen.
