Lindga

Lindga is the capitol city of Altarian, one of the few known continents of the world. Lindga is considered to me a metropolis where all manner of people call home. It is a city that is considered to be very orderly, where not only does the law prevail, but it actually works for the people.

Lindga is considered to be a military city. It hosts the largest part of the Altarian army and it's headquarters. It is also a religious city that is known to be a champion of the arts and culture.

For such a large city, Lindga is considered very safe. Crime happens in every city but it is fairly rare here. Crime rings are small and generally found and disbanded quickly. The town guard and military are quick to respond to criminals and criminal acts.

The military and town guard have the reputation of being both fair and honest.

Demographics

Lindga has a large upper class that are universally considered to be the nobility. Nobility here is often inherited titles, though some still can achieve noble status through great acts in the military or in politics.

Notably, the lower class is not uncomfortable here. Though there will always be a divide between the social classes, Lindga has a number of social programs in place to help the lower class. Healing and medicine are free, there is food given out by the palace and churches to anyone in need, and the town guard and military are known to act quickly to help or defend the citizens.

As with most of Altarian, most of the city is human, though it is not high of a percentage as the rest of the country.

  • 20% human
  • 18% elf
  • 15% dwarf
  • 12% halfling
  • 10% tiefling
  • 8% gnome
  • 5% orc
  • 5% dragonborn
  • 7% other

Industry & Trade

The city of Lindga has a lot of different industry in it. For the most part, it's cultural sites attract the most attention, but those are a small part of the workings of the city.

Lindga has the only university in Altarian. The university specializes in history and archaeology, though magic is a popular choice for students as is art, music and science.

The military historically makes up much of the work for Lingda. The headquarters for the military is here at the garrison and so are the training grounds. Even if one is not a part of the military, they often know someone who is. The military here helps to train the town guards, and often the town guards are considered part of the military as reserves.

The mines of Mount Hope and Mount Chrytas are very active, meaning one of the main exports of Lingda is metals and gemstones, or goods made from metals or gemstones. There is a large artisan district known for it's smiths, jewellers, and other craftspeople.

Guilds and Factions

Artisan Guild: This guild handles the artisans of the city. Though membership is not mandatory, there are a lot of benefits for being a member. Members can sell their goods at public markets and can even be represented in the noble markets. There is training at a discounted rate for members and apprentices often find work with members, as it adds credibility to their work

Healers Guild: More than just physicians, the healers guild includes physicians, surgeons, apothecaries, herbalists and midwives. The cleric Kristie Hanaboble of Cruitio, God of Healing is the leader of this guild.

Adventurer's Guild: This guild was newly formed with the purpose to set out and explore the world, return the lost lore, and unite the broken world. The head of the adventurer's guild is Prince Amos I, the kings younger brother.

Merchant's Guild: The Merchant's guild is one that helps control and regulate markets and shops. They help new shop owners find and set up stores, and they arrange and organize the open air markets. Membership is not mandatory, but there is a lot of help the guild provides for its members.

Arcane Guild: This is also a relatively new guild. No members are a higher level than level 5, but the guild hopes that the exploration of the world will help add of the magical knowledge of the guild, increase membership and increase the knowledge of all within it. Magus Iluthara Kingdaran heads this guild.

Entertainers Guild: This includes musicians, actors, playwrights, and artists. It too is a relatively new guild that has seen a lot of interest and activity since the beginning if the Renaissance.

Points of interest

Temple Hill: Temple hill has the majority of the temples and churches either on, or by it. Here are temples to Lydia, Goddess of Bounty, Iustia, Goddess of Justice, and Pax, God of Peace. There are also shrines to Ameri, Goddess of Love here and Cruitio, God of Healing.

The Palace: This is home to the royal family. Weekly, King Douglas II holds an open court to hear and address the concerns of the common people.

Noble District: This is the wealthiest area of Lindga. There are guards just for this district.

Library: The library is larger than the number of books currently in it. The whole country is looking forward to what the adventurers discover to add to its collection

The Garrison: there are two garrisons, both are open all day to aid people in need. They are overseen by the palace and the churches of Protaegon, God of Protection and Iustia, Goddess of Justice.

The Arena: The arena was newly constructed as a form of entertainment. It can host both battles and plays.

High Market: The largest market in the city. Venders often change in the open area part of the market. There are a couple of established businesses including a magic shop, an apothecary, and a clothing maker.

Artisan District: here is the largest collection of crafters in the city. There are a number of smiths, tanners, potters, etc found here. Many sell their goods in their workshops, but they also sell them through the Merchants Guild at various shops and markets in town.

Climate

Lindga, as the rest of Altarian, is tropical. It is hot and humid with summer temperatures reaching 45*C, and winter lows only reaching 5*C. The summer brings with it a series of tropical storms.
